I just did my 2nd valve check yesterday at 41,200.
1st check at 16,500 was perfect.

Yesterday all intakes were an easy .006", all exhausts were .009" , one ex was snug on the .009 but .010" would not go thru on any ex valves.
My bike only got .001" snugger in the last 24,000 miles. Even though I'm still in spec (but at the smaller end) I,m unsure what to do and need your advice.
If I am .010" +/-.001 in spec can I go another 40,000 miles ? is "in-spec", mean OK ?

In spec is in spec JMO. I wouldn't adj myself but I know some here feel better when the readings are in the middle. Your call.

Ken,
You have established the trend so you see where this is going, .008 is next.

I assume that valve tightening is linear and you did say one was snug at .009. I run two tanks of Seafoam to clean up any errant carbon deposits and tear into it and bring measurements to the middle of in-spec range. Easy for me to say because I have the time to do this.

It's in spec and no adjustment is necessary - that's what specs are for - but I wouldn't go 40,000 miles without checking them again. I take Stan's advice and check it in 20 to 24,000 miles. Mine did not need any adjustments until 86,000 miles but I could see several steadily closing up at checks every 20 to 24,000 miles until a .009 was a "no go".

Thanks - you guys are the best. Like Mellow said believe"in spec is in spec"
I'll let you know what I decide, it does take a while to strip it down for the valve check where it is right now. I didn't put it back together yet & it is mighty cold in New England

Cheers !!!:D

There is a reason the specs give you a range. Use that range.

Well - I took some of you guys advice and made no adjustment, put the valve covers back on last night.
I had a brainstorm last night (very dangerous) Was thinking that if mother Honda gives us that tolerance, it must be safe to use.
She must know that it is going to wear up or down out of that tolerance before the next required valve check --- so---
Honda must know its safe to let the clearance slip out of tolerance by maybe .001 up or down before readjusting.

Terrific thinking ??? :D
