Am I right in thinking that the 40A alternator was introduced from the 1996 model ?
Brother is looking at an ABS ST1100. He thinks it is 1996.
All he knows at the moment is that it is green !

2014 or at least that's my best guess. That's the date all over my bike with white chalk marks on all the bolts.

If it's Tasmania Green John, it'll probably be a 98 ST1100W.

Aye - I've got more info now and discovered that one of the greens came out for 97 and 98. But it is indeed a 98 model. Looks very smart. It has ABS/CBS/TCS - just like my ST1100AY was. But he has yet to check the swinging arm, and he says that the ABS light doesn't go out. So there is a problem there somewhere. I've told him how to get the fault codes, and how to test each of the sensors simply by spinning the wheel.

I don't know if anyone came up with a replacement for those sensors - that is if he can get it out of the bracket without snapping the bracket off. Neither do I know if the ABS light being on would be an MOT failure. I don't think they can test for that without riding the bike. He has a lot of soul searching to do...... But to be honest, he is unlikely to find one in better cosmetic condition than this one.

Some of the Tasmania Greens were in the showrooms early enough for 97 registrations, I've seen them from 97 to 99. It would seem he also has sensor availability.
Lucky kid.
As regards the MOT I think it's a bit of a minefield. I think as long as it looks complete with no sensor wires broken etc it should pass. Some older stations still get away with gradient tests.
