Hey guys, I am planning my wheel bearing inspection on my new (to me) bike, and probably will replace all - my question is about the rear wheel bearings... are they regular ball bearings ot there's something special about them? I see the fronts are regular. I'll be ordering based on manufacturer (NSK, TImken, etc.) and not from Partzilla/All Balls, etc. if I can help it.

Nothing special in the area of wheel bearings but the sistered (twin) 6905RS bearings that support the driven spline flange are prone to early destruction particularly in early models. Some were toast by 25,000 miles. Thing is you can't really even feel them or hear them going bad when riding down the road. You have to pull the wheel off and take the driven spline assembly apart to finger test them. The wheel bearings themselves have a life well in excess of 100,000 miles.

Somebody just asked about wheel bearings and @Andrew Shadow offered two articles to read. Both can be found in Articles (top of this page) > ST1300. It is important to not side load the bearings when you install them.
