Re: Rear Tire question

970Mike,
That's an awesome looking tire. How many miles on that tire now. Can you give an evaluation?
I am familiar with CT's and have run several on my Valkyrie. I just didn't want to go through all the trials again to find
"the right one" for the ST1300. Your input would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks
This tire now has close to 10,000 miles on it, so far I rate this tire to be one of the top rated of the four I have tried. This tire still has over 50% of thread left on it. One other rider that I know tried this tire and had problems with it rubbing on the swing arm, there must be a huge difference in the thickness of the swing arms where the seam is welded as some riders have had different brands of tires that will rub and some won't. There have been some riders who have flattened out that seam oh the front right side where some tires will rub, one friend I know marked the area and took a grinder to knock off the thickness and then sanded the area down when he was trying to install a Goodyear tire, he said it was an easy thing to do. Not sure if you will have any problem or not. I hope that helps.

Re: Rear Tire question

That tire is worn out!!! Look how rounded the edges are. You better hit the interstates for awhile to even it out. :D
You know that is what I have been looking for!! :22yikes: Still looking for that straight road!! :D

Just thought I'd share in case anyone is wanting to increase rear tire size.

I put on a set of Michelin Road Pilot 4 GT with the stock size up front, and a 190/55 17 on the rear.
just got back from a test ride and it rides and handles great!!

My ST1100 had too many problems to keep fixing so I've started parting it out. I now have an 07 ST1300. Want to move the nearly-new tires over. Front is the same size, rear ST1100 tire (150/70-17, Dunlop RoadSmart II) is .4" narrower and 0.8" taller that my current ST1300 tire (170/60-17). I wouldn't mind the larger diameter dropping the RPMs on the freeway, even if just a tad. Visual clearances seem fine for the slightly larger height. ST1300 is lighter than the ST1100 (pre-farkle!). Any reason why I shouldn't use it?

No,,, go ahead,,, just let us know how it turns out. One thing to keep in mind, if you like to drive hard and fast though. Some brands offer a dual ply carcass model,,, A-spec,, HWM, etc. That is all I buy,, as I find them more stable. Potentially,,, if you have more sidewall,, you can have more sidewall flex. Test ride with the inflations up there,,, like +42psi. I use big rear wheels on my sports cars,,, to make the overall drive ratios taller,,, have fun,, CAt'
