I am buying a new helmet. I am upgrading from my Sy-Max HJC. I was hoping you guys could help me out with a helmet choice. I hear good things from both. Maybe another reccomendation you have would be fine, but leading towards the TZR or the N102... thanks!

PS... I drive a 04 ST1300... the fastest! :) :04biker:

Whichever one fits your head better if you ask me. I like the Shoei but dang they're expensive.

I am using a Scorpion now.

I tried the Nolan before getting a vemar. I found the chin piece was really close to my chin I couldn't get a finger between the two, so it's down to comfort and fit as vossman says

hey cyrjordan,
I just saw on the vfr discussion forum that HJC has come out with a graphite helmet. It's in the price range of the shoei's and arai's, but weighs half as much, dot and snell approved. hmmmmmmm?

I love the full face Shoei, Not much wind noice, but but then I to have the 2" taller
windshield, What ever really fits good like Vossman pointed out is the really
important isue. A few extra dallors could make the differance

As stated earlier, whichever one fits.:bow1: Certification, then Fit, Feature and price last. If you have a question on how to fit a helmet properly check out this site : http://teamoregon.orst.edu/to_web/helmet_fit.html.

Having said that, I own a Nolan and really like it and the features. The inner shield really does reduce the fogging and the center release of the face shield is a lot better than the older style Nolan flip-face helmets. Another feature on the new 102s is that they come ready for a blue tooth connection in the helmet. I think there is one vendor that will put the whole comunication thing together for you. May someone else here knows who I speaking about. And if you don't have one or don't want one, the helmet has a cover the fits really close and looks good. Have fun trying on new helmets :D
Ride safe ... Mike

I have the N102, my second Nolan, great helmet. Comfortable, solid, well finished, lighter than the Shoei RF that it replaced. It's a great lid. Can't help you with the TZR...no personal experience with that one.

I also had the SY-MaX and didn't like the way it fit, so after a year I bought the Nolan N-100 and this is a great helmet!!!! Very comfy. The new N-102 comes with the flip down sun shield which I added to my N-100 and it works pretty well. Good Luck

Only problem is I am going to be buying it online, judging by what I hear about them... but worried on size. My old helmet fit got at a XL... does the Nolan XL fit like a XL? If you know what I mean...

MAde the same move as you..

Went from SYMax to the N102 from Nolan..

I am very happy with the Nolan. The one thing I did NOT like on the Nolan was the sun visor. Took it off and use sunglasses. I like to ride with the visor up in the summer and so from that the sun visor can't be used. Also the sun visor leaves a small mark across the face shield.

AS to buying online here is what you do..go into a dealer that carries them, try it on, get your fit and walk out. That way you will know what size fits best..

Thanks for the reply! There is no local dealer that has these, or else I would buy from them... but I can get this helmet online for $220 new in flat black.

Laet me ask you, on the sy-max do you have the same size helmet with the Nolan? For example, my Symax is an XL... so in other words does the XL Nolan fit like the XL Sy-Max? Thanks again.

I had a Nolan modular helmet (X1002--the 102 is the successor to the 1002) and found it to be noisy. I switched to the TZR from the X1002 and it is very quiet compared to the Nolan. I would not switch back to the Nolan. I can't say anything about the Nolan 102 except as a modular helmet, I expect it is somewhat noisy compared to the TZR. If you are thinking about audiio in the helmet or bike to bike communications, go with the TZR. :04biker:

I am thinking about bluetooth. I have it currently now. I want a quiet helmet that feels good and is pretty high standerds. I am just looking for a couple hundred dollar helmet, upgrading my Sy-max. Thanks for all your input. Anyone other suggestions on brands/models that you can convince me to buy?
