Oops I did it again !

If you still need to clean up the faded plastic I've had great luck with wipe new. Used it on faded jeep fenders two years ago and they still look great.

Thanks Trike Flyer, I will try that out. :bow1: I have not done much to the lower plastics yet, The right one is the worst, probably because when parked on kickstand that side is rolled up and exposed to the sun even more......

And the right one has a crack in it. During restoration I have found that the bike looks like it did a tip over on the right or a very slow speed laydown on the right side. Both plastics on that side have taken a small hit......

2003 ST1300 049 (Small).jpg Right side bag has a scratch in the lower portion, but the upper is almost perfect....

When first applied wipe new will leave a very glossy finish that I didn't particularly care for. After a couple weeks the glossy finish seems to get dulled a bit but the black remains.

To cover scratches on the lower portion of my bags I used some carbon fiber vinyl wrap. Not the easiest thing to do on the curved surface.

Good Luck

FWIW, I painted the lower halves of my saddlebags with Krylon Fusion rattle can paint for plastic. That was at least 3 years ago and they still look good. The downside? That Fusion paint is only offered in flat or gloss black, whereas I would've preferred a satin black. BTW, I used the flat black.

Thanks for the info. So far I am soaking them in conditioners and it has helped some. Too cold to paint right now. I will look into paint this spring.

Btw - if the 1300 grey plastic is the same colour as the 11 then SEM make a bumper paint # 39183 med grey that's nearly a perfect match. Have to clean with soap first and I also use pre-prep cleaner.

Been soaking the lower plastic in armor-all and it seems to be sticking. Don't know how well it will stick after the first rainy ride....but it does look about 70% better..

I just got in my scuff pads and the rear inner fender extender for the 2012!

Those have been put on all my bikes, with the exception of the '04#2. Since I'm selling it in a few months, I figure why install them, you never get out what you put into the FARKLEs! :(

BTW, are you going to put the side cover lowers on? :)

I might on the 06. Saw one on eBay, complete side cover with the lower panel. What do you mean by rear fender extender???

Nice bike but you have to stop calling it grey its Tower Silver so maybe silver mare lol seriously nice bike and you have cleaned it up nice.

Read this thread through, top to bottom, and am so envious. One: you got a steal at that price; two: spent the winter months playing with it and restoring it to make it look awesome. Now I can't wait for spring to get mine out of storage...

Thanks Snave, it has been fun. It just needed a little love is all. So far including all parts and title transfer fees I am only in to it for just under $3100. My first ST four years ago cost me $7000 plus fees.

Here to hoping spring comes early!
