So it finally happened. My Olympia XMoto pants finally failed. The zipper on the right side won't stay fastened. The two sides come apart, just walking out to the garage in them.

Overpants seem to be a dying style, but they are so convenient when you're going to church, a store, or wherever when you want to remove the motorcycle gear and just walk in your street clothes.

What do you recommend?

I've got mesh (with liners) FirstGear and Tourmaster overpants as I ride to an office job every day. I like the FirstGear ones better as they feel a bit more 'substantial' in construction. But I think the ones I have have been discontinued -

FirstGear Rover Air Overpants
Tourmaster Venture Air 2.0 Overpants

For spring, fall and winter, I wear Tourmaster Caliber overpant, with and without the liner. For summer, I wear a Tourmaster Tracker Air Pant, its mesh.

My Tourmaster overpants just say "Overpants" in them. No model name. They are old and I use them nearly every day. They have held up very well. I just got a pair of Tourmaster Caliber Pants to wear during the spring and fall and on summer trips. I also have a pair of Tourmaster Textile Jeans.

I have Joe Rocket Ballistic (non mesh) pants for beginning and end of season when is gets below about 45F and I'm using heated gear just about every time I ride. I use Olympia Airglide mesh rest of the season. The airglide comes with a liner, so if it's not too cold in the shoulder season you could get away with using Airglide for the whole riding season.

I have a pair of mesh Motoport overpants and a pair of the non mesh with a liner for rainy or chilly days. They both are heavily armored. I like them and feel protected. They are expensive new but I've had the mesh ones for 12 years and no doubt they will outlast me, they look used but as far as durability they are solid. I guess I should do research now on the life of kevlar clothing material.
https://www.motoport.com/product/ultra-ii-air-mesh-pant/ and https://www.motoport.com/product/ultra-ii-stretch-pant/ I have the jacket too for both.
The down side, aside from cost, is liners needed for rain, upside is cooler in summer without the liners
It's way to much money on one hand but on the other I don't have to go through the shopping process again unless I damage them or my body changes in the extreme (though I've had the mesh ones altered at the store once).

What I'm finding is the selection is very limited. In many cases, the sizes that are still available are at the extremes. The sizes that most people would wear, are out of stock.

The local tailor, a Korean man I've known for decades, thinks he can "tighten" the zipper pull and fix them. I'll pick them up tomorrow.

In the meantime, I keep looking and feeling frustrated. Thanks for your suggestions.

was going to say - put them aside cause my wife is really good at that too. A repair might give you back your ol favorite

For the last 2 years I've used the TM Venture Air 2.0 overpants. They are mesh and have 2 liners. In temps over 60F I have all liners removed. Above freezing I have the wind liner in. In temps below freezing I have the thermal liner also installed. Both this year and last year I wore these over my jeans to ride at temps below zeroF and was not cold yet. Also been near 100F and was comfy in mesh mode. I like these a lot and will likely replace with the same when time comes.

Aerostich Darien pants are totally waterproof but can be hot on hot days. They are a bit pricey but possibly the best out there.

I've had a local alterations place replace the zipper in some of my riding jackets and the leg zippers in riding pants with no problems.
I specified heavy duty metal zippers and that's what I got.
The issue sometimes is that they cannot get the same length zipper, but usually it's pretty close.
It wasn't cheap, but it was cheaper than replacing the garments.

I wear the Scorpion EXO Seattle, which is fully water proof and fits over my work uniform. They do come with a inside liner, but I tried it on a 35 degree day and with 3 layers I was cooking. I bought them because they were pretty much the only things I could find that unzipped further than me knee. Really nice to leave your boots on and step out of them. I will say that I do really like the pocket arrangement as well - seems more natural and doesn't get in the way once on the bike like my other riding pants. Overall I have been very happy with them:

I imagine they will be way too hot once it starts warming up, but I have ridden about an hour in 70F and although warm, they were not unbearable. They do have a dual zipper so you can zip down the leg to vent air. Other than that they really don't breathe.

Good luck on your search.

i have several pairs of riding pants to choose from. i have first gear mesh-tex summer pants, tourmaster venture pants with the removable thermo liner, and i have a pair of klim latitude pants

I have both First Gear HT air overpants and Olympia AirGlide 3 overpants. I wear air pants year round...in the winter the liners are installed and worn over blue jeans or fleece lined jeans. If it rains, rain pants are used over the pants.

I like both pants, but the Olympia are of slightly higher quality to me,,,,so much, that I bought another new pair of spare Olympia AirGlides shortly after purchasing the first pair.

That said, I just posted my first AirGlides for sale on advrider.com..........because warm water washing has shortened/shrunk the inseam of the pants about 2". They are too short for me now, and I wore the new pair today:)

I'm always looking for a sale. Why buy at list if you don't have to. Often find gear is on sale because its a model being phased out and replaced with a new version, so common sizes sell out pretty quickly.

ReSTored, here's an example of what I'm talking about.

Now on that list of available sizes for the FirstGear Kilmanjaro 2016 pants at MotorcycleGear.com...do you see any 34 or 36 Short pants even listed? It isn't that they are shown as being "Sold Out", those sizes aren't even listed.

In years past, I've been able to buy my gear as Closeouts as new versions came out. Now, it is hard to even find anything at all.
