Good morning everyone

There's fresh-brewed, hot French roast coffee in the pot for you today.

It's 28°F in Rockville and mostly cloudy, with a winter weather advisory in effect from 2000 hours this evening until 0700 tomorrow morning. Before that happens, the temperature will get into the middle 40s by midafternoon, then cool a bit and possibly begin to rain or even s**w around 1900 hours local time. In all, it sounds like typically dreary and cheerless sort of winter weather. Guess I'd better get around to ensuring that the s**wblower is ready for action.

Mrs. Fun will leave in a few hours on her annual Ladies Weekend Out in Williamsburg. She'll return home Monday afternoon.

After completing the plans (which still needs doing), I may actually begin construction of the to-be dressing bench, or at least start acquiring the materials. The plan calls for 3/4" oak veneer plywood, which is an item I generally need to order specially as it's not kept in stock at my favorite / preferred woodworking specialty retailer. However, many of the other materials will be on hand, so I could get started while waiting for that to arrive. And of course, before any work begins the shop has to be cleaned up.

I also need to disassemble and re-glue another of our dining chair set, which would be a good thing to work on today.

Dinner tonight at our local Italian joint, with the neighbors.

Stay safe and well everyone and tell your dear ones you love them. Do it today, NOW, for tomorrow may be too late.

Morning all, and thanks for the coffee Keith.

A dressing bench? Now there's a holiday idea I like the sounds of. So many choices. So many flavours. Skip the potatoes, turnip and rutabagas.

I'm envisioning something like this:

dressing bench.png

Now THAT'S a dressing bench.

Here, it's currently -9/-13 and clear, and still dark. We'll hit a mostly sunny -3/-8 high later on, if the guessers are correct.

I was told last evening, while we were decorating the Christmas tree, that the Christmas rushing around starts today. There's a 55" tv to go to the electronics recycler, bags of refundable beverage containers to go to the bottle recyclers, and holiday gifts and whatnot to be bought at money recyclers (retail stores.)

I think when I ask Santa I should write "all I want for Christmas is an unlimited bank account." Speaking of which, I've been without a credit card now since they cancelled it on Monday. They said the replacement would be a 2 day courier, but that was 5 days ago.... Seems somehow my card got hacked and they tried to buy stuff online from Wall-upon-the-mart. Bloody id-juts.

Hope everyone has a great day! It's coming.

*festive hugs*

Obo.

Thx Keith!
Wow, unsupervised til monday, what coul possibly go wrong!

And thx for the hug, Obo. Needed, but not deserved.

Another mild day, 10˚c/50f, overcast, quite calm.

Errands all day, but I’ve had a early walk uphill.

Have a good one!
Stu

Trail was wet today, but my Muckboots keep on delivering dry feet.(wonder how obo will envision that..)

Good morning and thanks for the coffee , Keith.

It's 20 and a bit overcast this morning , rising to 35, later.

Yesterday's shopping trip went off without a hitch, and we followed up by going to our son's place for dinner with his family. Both grandkids are growing noticeably since our last visit . Little Oliver is crawling and pulling himself to a standing position. Eloise is a whirling dervish , and is in constant motion.

Today, we'll wrap all of the gifts and send them out.

Enjoy the day,
Steve

Good morning, everyone. Thanks for the coffee, Keith.

@ibike2havefun About 25 years ago, I didn’t want to spend $99 for a TV stand, thinking that I could built it for less. It required 2 sheets of furniture grade plywood @ $64, each. Plus glue, hardware, and stain, totaling over $250. And the finished product wasn’t as nice as the big box item. My carpentry skills can be stored in a thimble.

Currently 32, but going to 52, before plunging to 15 tonight. We usually don’t see those low’s until Jan. or Feb.

Almost 40 when I woke up to look for Keith's coffee, while my own drips through the basket. Thanks for that.

It will be almost 20 Monday morning, so I'll have a very brief mention on the coldest ride list.

Thursday last, our CEO was having his truck washed and detailed by the mobile car wash company that rents office space in our building. But when he went to go get his daughter from school, it wouldn't start.

Just a tired old battery, easy fix. I drove him to Advanced Auto, and $250 and a few minutes later, he had a new one.

But on the way back to the office, as I took the exit back to our office, white steam boiled from underneath the hood, and I pulled to the shoulder.

Lots of hot, wet stuff, accompanied by the strong smell of antifreeze. Another coworker picked us up, and took us back to the office, where we installed the battery, and David was on his way.

Roz had to come get me at work and take me home, where I hitched the trailer, rode the GSA back to work, and took Kaiser home.

Friday I went out to have a look in the daylight, but couldn't see the actual hose (which I hope is the problem) due to all the plastic in and around the radiator. The flashlight is brought didn't help. Reminds me of trying to do work on my 1300.

So this is my chore for today. I have roadside assistance, but the question is -- does it need to come home, or go to the shop?

If like to think I can replace a hose and fill it with coolant... too soon to tell.

So first I'll be looking through my 3-volume set of service manuals, and maybe some training aids, and make a decision with more information.

But with no experience inside the coolant system of a Honda Element.

However, that's about to change.

Hoping your Saturday is filled with nothing worse than fighting Christmas shoppers.

Although, that can be pretty bad. Maybe it was a bad example...

Thanks for the coffee Keith, the first cup vanished almost instantly!

Today is supposed to be cloudy with the possibility of a few snow showers. It was 8F a little while ago and may hit 30F, nearly double what it has been for the last week.

I haven't been here in a while so for a very short recap of the last few weeks:
  • The deer apparently had a meeting before hunting season and agreed to stay away from me. Near the end of the season I saw the tail end of one rapidly heading into thick brush ... but now that the season has ended there are 2 or 3 on my trail cameras every day ... grrrrr
  • One of my brothers has lung cancer. His doctor says it is very treatable so he starts treatments in a few days. Needless to say, my nerves are shot.
  • For once I think I have plenty of groceries, but, as usual, someone has been tracking dirt into the house.
  • The past week or so two storms left about a foot of snow in my yard. Now I am trying to decide if I want to keep using the tractor and front bucket to clear the driveway or switch to the tractor mounted snowblower. Ah, decisions! Of course the tent I used during hunting season has been unfolded in the shed drying and will have to be secured before I can get the snowblower out ...
  • The best part is I will be taking 2 of the grandkids (5 and 11) out for dinner tonight. It should be entertaining!
Keep safe, be careful, and from all the posts I have seen recently - please heal fast!!

Scott

... when you can count the hours of sleep you had on one hand... :coffee:

G'Day...

2°/3°C, overcast, bit foggy with slight drizzle, damp...

at GF's place, hence multiple Nespresso-ed... ☕

suffered through:
- a run to the automotive supply store, GF's old Skoda needed new wiper blades... Bosch it is...
- a run to the hardware store to have her picking a tree... yes, the Xmas weed is in da house... currently unfolding on the terrace...
- a run through the grocery store with about a gazillion people in it... pfffff...

rushed home so ze GF can rush out again... she's at the movies with da grand-kid...
So they're at the mall, munching running Sushi, while I'm at home nibbling on two slices of bread topped with a few pieces of Emmental and some salami sticks... :cautious:

Trail was wet today, but my Muckboots keep on delivering dry feet.(wonder how obo will envision that..)
<Scottish accent/marching rhythm>
"🎶 oh Wellies they are wonderful,
oh Wellies they are swell,
cause they keep out the water,
and they keep in the smell... 🎶"
(Billy Connolly, the wellie boot song 😁)

enjoy the Saturday!

Morning all, thanks for coffee Keith. Took the liberty of downing a real pot with my wife before turning on the computer.
Single digits for temps here in the frozen tundra with a fresh coating of snow. Do not expect much movement in the thermometer in the next couple of days.
Sadisor sounds like you are about to get some experience with the Elements cooling system. How bad can it be.....forget I said that.
Have a great day everyone and remember be safe out there.

Good (late) morning, all, and thanks for getting things rolling, Keith.

White flakes are steadily coming down this morning and will continue to do so pretty much all day. Due to the dumps of snow we've had over the last week or so, my balcony is in dire need of a good shovelling, which may or may not get done today, given the "balloonish" aspect of...and accompanying severe pain in...my grossly overtaxed left hand. FAR too much typing over the past two weeks. Meds and recovery this weekend, then once more into the breach on Monday. We have a not-too-bad temperature of -6°C/21°F (feels like -9°C/16°F) right now, and we'll see a high of -2°C/28°F (windchill of -6°C/21°F) today.

@STooRay: That shot of the guy on the monocycle in the middle of nowhere is a spectacular photo!
@jdmccright: Sorry to hear about the kitty's health struggles, hope the vet can get her all better.
@Weaselinsuit: Same wishes for your pup, Ted. It's so hard when you pretty much know they've transitioned into end-of-life stage.
@Donk: Glad the sling's off! Yay!!
@sah48: Very sorry indeed to hear about your brother, Scott, but "very treatable" sounds very encouraging.

OK, better move my exhausted derrière and go find some bits and bobs to give out on Christmas day. Today is "D-Day" for that, as I won't have time before the big day.
Everybody have a good one, stay safe and go safely.

Patty

Good Morning Y'all, thanks all for a entertaining read this morning. 47 F high of 53, Cloudy with dry conditions till 11 pm if the phone is correct.95% humidity 5 mph wind from SE. Gate was opened this morning by a tenant, so stayed in and had breakfast, today's agenda, figure out why Lady wants to drift to the right when I take my hands off the handle bars. Yeah I know look "Mom no hands" only do that to see if the bike is straight and in good condition. Last night, loosened the triple clamps and front axle bolts, hopefully got the front end straight. Test ride is on the menu. Last ride was to the grocery store, put the groceries in the left side bag ,4 litre milk jug weights 9 pounds, bike goes straight. So something is out of position. Will check on the forum for suggestions to cure the problem. Happy weekend Everyone, G

Hi Mark, take a look at the Sides of the Rad, the Aluminum/ with plastic sides rads tend to leak ,wear they meet. But hopefully you just need a new hose , which can be painful to get at mind you. Obo is correct Anti-freeze is extremely bad for animals, basically dissolves their Stomach.

Morning Keith & All from sunny, Southern Utah!

Currently it is 42F, up from 20F and heading for 55F. No breeze yet, later the winds will be out of the NNW @ 5.

Still recovering from whatever grabbed me at the funeral, but I felt good enough to go to a basketball game last night. Unfortunately, the team I thought would win, didn't do too well.

Chris and I are off to a friends house for brunch. There should be about 10 to 12 people there.

Anyone :bk13:, have a great day on the roads! :hat3:

Still Good morning, so after an hour of reading a thread about 1300's pulling to the right ( nine pages). Comes down to three solutions, easiest, put about 9 lbs of stuff in the left side case. Second, remove some length from the spacer, that is between front wheel and right fork, and last shim the final drive to the Swing arm , don't remember who had the 1100 with a swing arm that wasn't the correct length left to right, but good possibility. Maybe fourth reason tires. For now , heavy stuff going into left side case. Then me going for a ride.

Well happy to say putting, my cooking Stove,Propane tank, windshield cleaners and boot covers in Left side case, Lady goes straight down the highway, she also rides smoother and steers even left or right. Got lots of room in the trunk now. Good evening, G
