Has anyone installed communications in a Shoei X-11?
My old HJC had speaker pockets which was very easy to install speakers.
Of course the Shoei x-11 doesn't have the speaker pockets....
I'd be interested in hearing experiences on installation.
I'm not keen on cutting out foam after shelling out that kind of money.
But the thought of giving up my MP3?

I know that this post is pretty old, but did you ever install speakers in your Shoei X-11 helmet? I just bought one and I thought my J & M speakers would go in with out cutting the helmet. I really do not want to cut out the foam, but I want to be able to communicate with my wife, and listen to my music and GPS. I am open to suggestions.

I never did install a system in the X11.
I've since changed bikes a number of times and now find music via a half helmet and Bubs Pipes.

I installed a Chatterbox in my Shoei RF1000. I wear a snug medium and it KILLED my ears. I borrowed a large it worked better but my ears still hurt at the end of the ride.

I've got the Autocom headset installed in my X-11. Required zero cutting or other modifications to the helmet or headset.

Placement of the speakers is critical to my comfort. I have a tendency to install them such that they end up too high on my ear and it puts a fair amount of pressure on them over a few hundred miles. Adjusting them down in the helmet is pretty simple and improves the fit for me immensely.

For my Shoei RF1000 I crushed the foam a small amount where the speakers mount using a spoon. I will soon be installing a Starcom speaker/mic in my new X-11 and will probably use the same technique if required. Might not be necessary as a friend installed the same headset and didn't have to do anything.

I have J & M speakers, and they are not even close to fitting in my new X-11. Autocom speakers must much smaller than J & M speakers. I tried to email Shoei to ask them how I could install the speakers, or will they sell the Styrofoam so I could replace it if I removed the speakers. I never heard back from them.

Hmmm... Are you having trouble fitting the diameter of the speaker or the thickness? When installing mine, the speaker diameter would appear to be about right to fit in the "ear cup" in the helmet liner. The speaker thickness is what causes the pressure against the top of my ear sometimes. As I try to adjust them down to relieve pressure, I'm fighting a diameter problem, forcing the speaker down against the helmet liner. But I can usually squeak out just enough in the downward direction to relieve a lot of pressure at the top of my ear.

I can give them a quick measure when I get home from work tonight if you're interested....
