Sounds like all had good outcomes now for my horror, especially for my wife, story. Wednesday I had my right hip replaced. walked befor I left. Friday follow up, X-rays good,walking good while standing in the office I felt and told my wife I feel lightheaded. A minute later l woke up on the floor with everyone screaming. Off to ER in an ambulance. Tested all day, nothing. 7 hours later they sent me home. Not once since the fall did I walk till I got home. Pretty stiff, a little sore but I,m on pain meds. Saturday my right knee is swollen, sore and I can’t straighten it out and hurts to bend it…...to be continued.

Right after my Right hip joint replacement surgery ( 4 years ago ) they were wanting me to stand up & walk down the hall . I was feeling fine when I was sitting down , but about a minute or two after I stood up my B.P. dropped really quick & I almost passed out . Was explained it is an anesthesia residual reaction on some people . They kept me overnight & the next morning I was ready to walk then .
My left hip joint replacement surgery , this September , they just kept me overnight anyway , after what happened before .

Your delayed reaction sounds strange though ! A reaction to the after-meds , like tramadol ? I got off that stuff after 3 days . both times .

I had my left knee replacement done at 52 yrs old in 2016. On 9-17-25 while on vacation in Washington D.C. I developed an infection in my knee replacement. Couldn’t put wait on it by the end off the day. I went to the ER first thing 9-18-25. The infection was septic. Had emergency surgery 9-19-25. I stay in University of Maryland Hospital for a week. I came home laying down in the back of my truck. I spent another 2 nights in the hospital before going home. I was put on IV antibiotics to try and clear the infection. Did not work. I go next Friday to remove my knee replacement. They will put in a spacer that has antibiotics in it. I will be back on IV antibiotics for at least 6 weeks or until the infection is gone. Then another surgery to put in a new knee replacement. This will be my 7th surgery on this knee.

Keith - Man I hate to here that - I know you've fought infection in that knee before.
Hope they get it fixed for good this time my friend.
 
I'd like to thank everyone for participating in this informal and unscientific "study."
As I began thinking about all of it, I was just curious, having seen an increasing number of our virtual colleagues participating in joint replacement, in partnership with their surgeons.
I don't have any joint issues (knock wood) at 68yo, but I'm getting no younger, you likely aren't either (if you ARE ...tell me how!), and don't anticipate external parts any time soon.
So, for however long this thread floats to the top, just wanna say thanks for sharing your experience.
...and a HUGE THANKS! to Brother @Mellow for working to move and reassemble our little virtual playground. Thanks so much!

Now that's a nightmare. There was a full page of things to do before my surgery, shower with special soaps, clean towels each time even using a new toothbrush among other things all because of risk of infection. What really surprised me was using an antibiotic for only 3 days after the surgery, go figure. Now you can say your a 1 percenter. :chairfall1: As someone once said " I feel your pain" I hope you recover quickly... Al
