• A to Z Rules
Start with a City beginning with A
    1. This is BY STATE
    2. Similar to the Tag contest, there will be one thread per state
    3. Post a picture of your bike AND some sign, building etc which clearly shows the city/state you're in
    4. The next person posts from a city with the name beginning with B, then C, D, etc
    5. You can't posts back-to-back pics, you have to wait for a person to post the next city
    6. Once Z is reached, the game starts over with A
    7. If your state doesn't have a city beginning with the next letter in sequence, it's okay to skip that letter
    8. If the location sits for more than one month, the person that posted that is open to move it to the next letter.Previously Rule 8
    9. For some States there are tough letters to find such as Q, W, X, Y, Z - in those cases it is acceptable to find anything with those letters in the name to keep the game moving.

The World Wide game is a bit different as it is by whatever is considered a geographic type of regional category, state/province/village etc. and all those will be in the single World Wide A-Z topic.

TN: A to Z (Round 10)

'Official'? What deems an area 'official'?
Each tag game used to have a header at the top of the page for that game that listed the rules of the game. The Flag Challenge and the Tag Game still have this header with the rules for those games posted. Unless I missed it the rules of the A to Z Game seem to have been lost in the site crash. There were also rules designed to keep the game moving along rather than stalling because of things like no town for a given letter, when it can be moved by the same person who posted the last letter, time limits, requirement to have your motorcycle in the photo, etc..

Anyone who previously didn't play or who is a new member won't know what the rules are. It might be to the benefit of all players to have the header with the rules for this game reinstated.

well those aren’t cities —they may be areas —or historic communities that had a local name, but nothing official.
Good to know at least one of them has something in that area with a sign indicating the name of the place. A church, a Volunteer Fire Dep’t.
It's good enough for the game.. the whole point is to get out and ride...

I see a short set of rules here at the Tennessee A-to-Z game page. In fact it auto populates to relocate itself at the very top of the screen for each of the many pages within the thread.
I think the same message appears at every state-specific A-to-Z thread, and the worldwide A-to-Z thread, even after the 2025 server crash.

It says:

Rule #4 should be clarified because it’s almost impossible to find a sign that announces both the city and the state.
Usually the name is just the city.
Nobody who has participated here has ever taken that literally as a requirement, but I wouldn’t want the rules to discourage participation by making a newbie think that a sign has to have both of those elements to qualify.

I wish we could use other official government recognized jurisdictions besides villages towns and cities —-so I’m perfectly OK with using a unincorporated community that was never a city and never had any charter or city government. But that’s not what the rules say.
Although that’s what we’ve done in practice— maybe the rule should be changed to reflect the reality?

I’d also like to give people the option of riding to the border of a county, or a province, or state, or nation, as long as the new jurisdiction you cross into starts with that letter of the alphabet.

But, if the purpose of this thread is to get people to ride in the present sense rather than pat them on the back for riding that they did at some point in their history, even decades ago…
… if this thread is about getting people to ride rather than getting people to sort through their photo albums…. maybe there should be a time limit on how old a picture can be, to be used here.

My friend, you are making this much more restrictive than was ever intended - ask @Mellow.
This is to get folks out riding, not strictly going by the Roberts Rules Of Order. ;)
The main rule is the 'Month Rule' - same person can't post the next one until a month has passed.

These are communities whether they were ever incorporated or not.
People live and lived there, died, raised their families, usually went to church - that's pretty 'official' to me! ;)
I figure if Google maps knows it, it is more or less official. Then all I need is a sign...most often a church.

Well, that is really strange then. I have no idea why you can see the list of rules and I can't.

What you describe is what I was referring to, and what I used to see. While I didn't check every game thread before I posted the above I did check several of the A to Z game threads, including this Tennessee one. I just checked them again and there are no rules that appear at the top of the first page, or anywhere else on any page, when I look at it. I just assumed it was the result of the crash. I'm using Firefox.

It goes straight to the first post.

There was an option to dismiss it once read, I cleared that so it should always show up now.
