General question to those who know, Is it necessary to pull the engine from the frame to remove the cylinder heads? According to the service manual it says to. Thanks Gordon

To answer your question, I don't know, but I think it is not necessary to remove the engine.

FWIW, the manual says to remove the engine to change the clutch slave cylinder. It can be done in a couple of hours w/ the engine in the frame.
I quote, pg 9-13:
"Clutch slave cylinder - Removal
1. Drain the clutch hydraulic system (page 9-7).
2. Remove the engine from the frame (page 7-4).
3. Remove the clutch slave cylinder mounting bolts..."

Don't believe everything you read.

I know, because I’ve done it, the heads can be removed from the bike with the engine in the frame on the ST1100, not sure about the 1300, but would expect the same.
