At the end of a ride yesterday I noticed a small hesitation under acceleration on my 2007 ST1300. Today, when I pulled the pump assembly to check the in tank hoses, this is what I found. I am surprised it was running.

Any suggestions on how to remove, clean and treat the lower tank would be appreciated. Also, during this process are there any other items to check/replace while I am in there?

Thanks,
Mike

You might want to check the drain pipe that runs from the hole on the left hand side of the filler neck, down through the tank to one of the pipes that emerge at the rear underside of the tank. It drains water via the tube that connects to the pipe at the rear which is routed down to near the gear lever at the rear of the sump left hand side.

If that has rusted, then rain water can get into the fuel and fuel can escape to the road under the rear tyre.

I clean mine out periodically, by blasting compressed air from the tubes (cover the fuel neck first) and then fill it with ACF50 and leave it to soak in for a while, then drain it out. (I reclaim the ACF50 so I can use it again next time. ACF50 'cos it penetrates and it is OK to use on rubber / nitrile (or whatever) components.
