Shinko Tire??

I've been reading all the comments in previous threads about Shinko tires and was thinking about giving them a try. I generally replace both front and rear at the same time when going to different tires, but the previous owner had just put a new front tire on and I don't want to replace it if I don't have to. Has anyone put a Shinko on the back with a different brand on the front? If so, any issues?

It's been 5 years since I owned my last ST and I'm glad I decided to climb back aboard one. More smiles per mile...

Running a Shinko Verge(?) on the front of one of my ST1100s (same size as the ST1300 for the ABSII) and a BT020 BMW Bias on the rear. Okay, but the first 200 miles or so I was ready to yank it off - really nervous handling. It finally settled in and not bad, but I won't get very many miles out of it at the rate it is wearing. YMMV.

I've had that same problem in the past. The bike just didn't feel right so I went to a matched set and that's probably what I'll do this time. Thanks for the info...

I have run a Shinko 009 on the rear with a PR2 that was already on the front without any problems. In fact, when the Shinko wore out, I replaced both front and back with PR2 but after the rear PR2 wore out I went back to the Shinko and, again, had no problems. :)

Good luck. :)

Thanks for the info. I'm going down next week to see about getting a set installed. The price for the two tires installed isn't too bad and I figure that since summer is right around the corner I might as well get it done now...

Just wanted to give an update on the Shinko tires I'm running. I ended up installing the 016 Verge tires. I've put just over 1k on them and they have so far impressed me. But at first I wasn't sure about them. For about the first 100 miles or so the bike felt like it wanted to fall into the curves. So I've either gotten use to them or they changed. Last week I took a long trip to Fossil in central Oregon. Coming home we hit some great tight twisties for about 20 miles and the tires performed flawlessly. I haven't ridden in any rain yet so I' curious how they'll work. With only about 1k on them I don't know how they'll be for mileage so another 7-8k will tell.

I had used the raven 009 on my versys and after 6 sets of them, for the money I thought they are great tires. I will be giving them a try on my st13 when the next tire change is due.

I've got a matching set of the 011's. So far I'm pretty impressed with them. I'm older and don't ride real hard but I've scrapped the pegs a couple of times since install them and they felt really gripped to the road. It will be interesting if they hold up over the miles...

The 011 Verge front gave me the highest mileage of any front I've run. For the rear the 009 Raven got more mileage than the 011 Verge.

So my next set standing by to mount is a 009 rear and 011 front.

I ran those tires back when I was riding between work locations. Mix-n-Match and both. Never had an issue and they performed just nifty.

I'm on my third 009 rear and like the feel and mileage. I've got pr2 on the front so can't tell you about that but I just put a matching set of 009's on my Blackbird and I like the front on that bike. I like how it "falls" into the turns. :)

Yeah, wish they had an 009 front in our size. I'm already worried the 009 Raven line will be phased out with all their newer tires.

My 97 came with a Shinko 09 on the rear and a Battle-axe 28 on the front. I've only ridden a couple of hundred miles since I bought the bike, I had the rear slip out on my on a corner which was unnerving. But from what I just read in this thread they appear to need to be broken in, I'll try it a little longer in the spring when riding season is back for us folk in the great white north.

Verge 011 on the front and Hankook on the rear, nice setup. The Verge was balance perfect from the factory, no weight or balance beads. The Verge was less than $100 delivered and the milage is as good as any tire I've tried.
