Congrat's on hitting the 100k mark,,, and I am sure your STeed will double or even triple that eventually. Interesting about the valve noise. I am nearly the same mileage,, and so have begun to listen to my engine a bit more lately. Would the tendency not be for the valve clearances to tighten over time ?? I suppose, and exception that might cause a bit of extra clearance and resulting noise would be cam lobe wear ?? But I would not expect that in a modern Honda engine. Cat'
The ticking sound starts at 3100 rpms and lasts only about to 3300 rpms. If you run it to 31 thT00 and keep it there you can hear it good. I'm just wondering if the other guys hear the same thing which would make it the nature of the beast. By the way have never had the valves checked...it just runs so incredibly good. Good on the 100,000, bad on never checking the valves. It probably will run smooth right up to the valve burn day. Valves usually "tighten up" over time until there is no more clearance between the moving parts. So it probably gets quieter sounding the longer you put off the check-adjustment. You really should check the valves.
+2 on checking the valves! ( and adjusting the counterbalancer).
