John, I bought the bike 4 years ago with 72k, so 78k are mine. Although now I'm having trouble with it running hotter than before. Never crosses the upper white line but it rides right on it till it comes back down. I think the water pump might be on it's last leg. I'm purchasing another ST1100. A 1995 with only 27k on it. Pictures to follow.

Nice, 78k in 4 years is a lot of riding! Regarding the overheating, check the radiator overflow hose for cracks where it comes off the nipple just below the radiator cap.

Jim. If you don't have any coolant leaks and have run silicate-free coolant, I wouldn't expect the water pump causing those symptoms.

I'm prejudiced so please figure out the problem and keep that classic '91 on the road!
