Before any spam, anyone that wants to ride from Regina Sask. To Calgary AB. (about 600 miles) in a Canadian winter is welcome. Now we have a 7' 6" bike I have a 6' 4" X 4' box so the square root of A squared plus B squared is 7' 6" anyone try it?

I have put mine in on the angle across the bed of the truck ,front wheel in the corner and back wheel on the other side rear . You need to take off the saddlebags though.

I've hauled my ST1300 in the back of a Dodge Dakota quad cab. The bed is short (less than 6') but the rear wheel rests on the tailgate.

Back the bike in and turn the front wheel to the side?
Have you thought about removing the front wheel?

I did the same thing with my Tacoma quad-cab last summer when I bought my 1300. 400 miles from Indiana to Alabama with no problems.

The tailgates on Tacomas are notoriously weak so I made a strengthening platform out of plywood and diamond plate. The tailgate still drooped & bowed a little, unfortunately.

As for getting the bike into the truck, I highly recommend a tri-fold ramp like the ATV-ers use. The Harbor Freight one works fine, it can handle the ST1300 weight no problem.

BruceP, what about renting a U-Haul motorcycle trailer?

Good luck whatever method you end up choosing.

Justin and I had to truck my 2012 ST1300 from Issaquah WA down to Hillsboro, near Portland in the back of his 4door F150. No sure how long his bed is...

I would be inclined to put a 1/2" or 5/8" sheet of plywood in the bed (cut out for wheelwells) that extended the length of the open tailgate....keep the load distributed across the tailgate so a pothole doesn't dent the tailgate....and (at least around here) motorcycle shops have nice permanent ramps for just this kind of loading....and you get to look at new bikes besides......ff

If the rear wheel will be on the tail gate, I would also consider a 2 x 10 or three under the length of the plywood to help stiffen it. Put them edge to edge and use the plywood to keep them together.

This is EXACTLY what I did when I trucked my 1300. Plywood the full length of the bed & open tailgate, with a piece of diamond plate under the bike's rear wheel for additional reinforcement. Still wasn't enough support for the Tacoma's weak tailgate (2004 model year). I should have used some 2x10's as suggested by Ron.
