I have tried at least 20 Ace Hardwares and none have had the key blanks.
...
My original key is bent just enough that it will be nearly useless to work from.
Seriously, find a locksmith. For this, you're beyond hardware stores.

If you can't get blanks locally, they're available from key supply places online for less than a buck each.

20 H\W stores?!?! That's an awefull waste of time.

This last Sat, I jumped on the ST and drove not 10 minutes to my local locksmith and they cut me 4 keys (iLco x265 HD109) ... 5 minutes and $8 later, I was out the door.

I stopped at the Local Ace and had four keys made, tried them on the bike to make sure they all worked and went back in and payed. No problems. Quick and easy.

I don't even think I could find 20 Ace stores around here.
Are locksmiths a lost profession in your area?
Pretty much. Plan on $100 just for one to talk to me. Had to have keys made for a door at work- pretty simple. Cost $150. If I had blanks and a good original, any local store could do them; but several stores have tried and most said that blank is discontinued and impossible to get unless I find old stock. Mark, if you have a source, I'd love to know it! I paid $6 for a pair on ebay.

Here is a link to blanks.
This one has the plastic head cover.
Jim, NOT EVERY place can cut a good one ALL the time. I know.

Thanks, I just ordered 5 of the plastic head ones. One to practice with, and 4 to make once I have a working prototype...lol

In Windham NH, just down the road from me in Derry, there is a place called EKEYS4CARS (60 Rockingham Road) that cut new ones for my ST1300 and it was only a few bucks. They used the iLco X265 HD109 blank.

Props to this post, here is an updated link to to mrlock.com http://www.mrlock.com/manufacturers-1-1/kaba-ilco/kaba-ilco-key-blank/ilco-motorcycle-key-blanks/ilco-honda-motorcycle-key-blanks/ilc-hd109-honda-motorcycle-key-blank
I just ordered 4 for the mod. Got my bike started and found out my lunch I was still holding would need to be stuffed up my jacket for the ride, since the cases on the 1300 are always locked without the key in place.

Additionally, I ended up not buying from this source because I found an ebay seller "plasticnow". 2 keys for 4.00 plus 2.80 shipping, so I ordered 2 set of 2, 4 keys plus shipping 10.80. It only says HD109 in the description but it's stamped X265 on the key in the picture.

Thanks for this helpful article. One small correction, DA23 would work everywhere except ignition because its shorter than original key.

Went to local Ace and walked out with HD109 for $3. Buying blank and then getting it cut locally would have been slightly expensive. Unless I buy like 50 keys :)
