With my second rear 020 probably going to die at 5k miles and the 023 not looking any better, how about the Shinko Verge 011?

I ran a Shinko Raven on my CBR1100XX, not a bad tire and cheap. I'm about ready to take whatever tire I decide to run and bake it in the sun on my roof and harden it to get better mileage.

It could be an option. They have fronts in stock but no rears yet, I think. I will check this morning and send an update. The tires have a great looking tread pattern. Could be another option. I was just waiting for them to be in stock before throwing it out there. I have them on the website already just not in stock.

Tim, let me know when the rears are in. I guess I'll be the guinea pig for these tires, not much interest generated here.

Did some math and tires like the PR2 would have to get 8k miles for me VS 5k to even out their increased $$$. Not likely.

Are you sure you want a Shinko tire, they have had LOTS of rubber problems, I won't ride one again until I know a LOT of other braver folks can demonstrate the rubber won't blister off! I had a different model of Shinko go south on me with way before it's time. I drove home slowly and avoided the freeway (from work to home) for fear the tire would come apart completely.

I would say to do a search but I wonder if the mods already got rid of it, as I couldn't pull it up "shinko stinko", wait, it might have been on the Gold Wing board where I read about it more recently. Been lots of talks about how bad they are on ADV Rider boards.

The 160 and 170 series Shinko's have been a really solid tire. I have used severa of them on a few of my older bikes with great success. Most people don't know that Shinko used to be the Motocycle Tire division of Yokohama. They make good products overall. First I heard of the Goldwing problems.

As an option, for those 1300 riders looking for better rear tar mileage, how about the 160/70/17 Bridgestone 020 R? It's the reinforced BMW spec bias tar I've been running for a while on my hi-miles bike (ReSTored and now lipSTick.) I get 15,000 miles out'a them.

It's not spec size for the 1300 (160/70 instead'a 170/60 but is speced for that width rim. Also, cheaper than any of the radials, holds well in the curves, and should make minimum handling change. Just a thought.

I'll repost this on a separate thread soon's I hear back from Tim on the fit. I've run different sizes on the 1100, 160/60 works good but doesn't last, 170/60 works in a pinch but only in an emergency. 160/70 seems to be the best size and ought'a work great on the 1300 as well.

I hope the Shinko Verge in 170/60-17 soon becomes available. My rear 020 is even with the wear bars.

Buddy of mine has a 2009 Concours. He wore out both OEM 021 tires in 5k miles. He just had Shinko Advance tires mounted.

I tried a Shinko Raven 009 on my ST last year. I got less than half the mileage I usually get from a PR2. I had no problems with the tire except wore out too fast. I'll stick with PR2s on the ST from now on.

I need a rear and was wondering if anyone has tried Georges' recommendation here on a 1300??
