For Sale: (1) Pair of Classic Goldwings
Price: $3400/obo
I am looking to sell two motorcycles I own; a pair of classic Honda Goldwings. The first of the pair is a first year model (1975) and the second is a third year (1977). I purchased these bikes at auction thinking that I’d “get into” classic Goldwings but … it didn’t take. Although incredible machines, I already have too many motorcycles and don’t want to chase around storing more than I have to, or feeling guilty because I’m not riding them as much as I should, so I’m offering these for sale. Both motorcyles have received the following:
1. Carbs profesionally rebuilt by Bear’s Cycle and Restoration, LLC. (https://bearscycleshop.com/)
2. Carb sync/minor tuning after installation
3. Fuel tanks thoroughly de-rusted with Evap-o-Rust
4. Fuel filter, fuel line
5. New fuel sender packing.
6. Complete coolant flush (Honda or Honda-compatible blue)
7. The typical oil changes, etc.
8. Other minor fixes and improvements.
In addition to the above, the 1977 unit has had had the following additional updates or repairs:
1. Replace the coolant hoses and the thermostat.
2. I’ve replaced the wire from battery to starter with an hand-crafted, Artisan unit. The crimper cost me more than a new OEM wire would have.
3. Repaired the stator wires which were overheating (and had been “repaired” - poorly - at least once before). I used Western Union style splices for 4 of the 6 connections, with heatshrink and tape, and top-shelf Marine-grade butt-joint connectors (and tape) for the other two (which were simply too short). Repair successful. No more overheating wires.
The bikes were purchased with freshly flushed brake fluid, new tires, newish batteries, etc….
Neither bike overheats, fans work, etc… The fuel gauge on the '75 doesn't work
The 1975 unit (44,898 miles at the time of this writing) is in really good condition. It starts and stops and handles better than any bike it’s age (much less half it’s age) has any right to. Honda knew what they were doing. The condition of the exhaust is… not great. It’s not terrible, but it’s not great. Fixable without professionally help.
The 1977 unit (40,991 miles) is in exceptional aesthetic condition. The overall condition is just amazing. The gauges are amazing. The front brake is… not great. Not “use your feet Flintstone-style” bad, but … not two finger stoppie great, either. It needs new pads. The forks leak.
Both bikes overcharge their batteries (15.3+V). I suspect regulators in both cases. I will continue to chase this issue but the price reflects this problem. A new, modern regulator+rectifier combo replacement is $130 and relatively easy to do.
I would very much prefer to sell them as a pair, and preferably to an enthusiast.
No reasonable offers refused. Not interested in trades. Unless it’s a late-model Yamaha FJR1300 or Honda NT1100. Will also trade for cash.
