Ontario's bureaucracy around this requirement sounds downright draconian! Not like that in BC at all. How many other provinces are so tough on sellers of older vehicles?
I tried to convince my ST buddy here, who recently crashed his 2001, to do a fly ride for that bike, where all it would take is a new registration for the bike once in BC.

It’s such an old bike now so why would they care? It’s not like it has to pass any 2026 standards, but that’s governments for you, just complicating everything. I recall when they had bike inspection in NJ decades ago…turn on the lights and beep the horn (not the important stuff like brakes and tires- that didn’t seem to matter). It was a colossal waste of time and resources.

Hopefully Motorsports Pickering will do the inspection, even if the OP has to buy some new tires. Possibly that potential buyer could be convinced to kick in more dollars for the purchase to cover the tires.

Wondering what the date codes on his tires are now?

Yeah, I agree I'd want more explanation on that. Sounds like they've got quite a racket going on.

Only things I can think of that would cause a new-ish tire to fail is visible damage, abnormal wear, a puncture repair, or it is the wrong speed rating.

If it was a Battleaxe T32 on the front and for that matter the rear, a photo of the tire in question can be deceptive. It can look more worn out than it actually is. We used to be able to determine the life of a tire by the use of a penny instead of an actual tire tread gauge. We no longer use pennies for currency here in Canada, so that gauge hack is no longer available. ;)

Same here in Quebec.
No inspection required
This is correct, if the vehicle is currently registered in Quebec. I do believe that all used vehicles being brought in to Quebec from all outside jurisdictions require passing inspection before registration however.

The same is true in B.C. as well as far as I know.

Here in PE, ALL vehicles must be inspected every year, but the inspection is a simple, "normal" inspection, like in the past. It is also government regulated at $30. I dont know how auto shops can make money at that "capped" rate. I doubt the inspection is too in depth. @STFlips , sorry to hear your'e having such difficulties with something that should be simple.

If it's only a front tire, that shouldn't be a big deal in the grand scale of the sale. Just decide who's getting the bill, or how it's being shared. I'd be more concerned if they found other issues that were going to start getting really expensive. From the reply about it failed and they were looking at plan B, I imagined it was more than just a front tire.

I'm happy to say the buyer is a good guy and will complete the sale today. Motorsports told me the tire was "cupped", I did feel an edge all around just off the centerline, my last front tire developed that too. Not my idea of cupping, but can't win on this one. Buyer agreed to pay for repairs and I will toss in some labour dollars to get the second fork seal done. Since the fork seals come with two in the package, I think it's the proper thing to swap out both sides. The Tracer will have some room to breathe in the garage now and just maybe... I'll have a chance to pull out the '72 CB to tinker on :thumb: Cheers, Bruce
