I have a 2008 ST1300 motorcycle, have it since I bought it brand new. Everything on the bike is excellent, have it over for 200,000.

However, I am wondering if anyone has used a hotwire, and if so, did you have any problem with it

My bottom thumb button seems to be intermittent, so when I click on the button, it acts up sometimes

Does anyone have or know of a solution for this

Before you try augmenting electrical its not recommended as your ECU can get affected and you will go down a rabbit hole chasing even more issues. Its your bike but if your referring to the starter switch, some or any controls, with that many miles - I would disassemble them and do a proper cleaning and inspection. Use a dielectric cleaner that is meant to clean and dry without creating shorts. Look for broken or scored contacts - before modifying. Pics and specifics would help. Some of us have manuals that we can refer to guide you better. Congrats on the miles achievement

@JohnK gave you the right answer. A quick and dirty fix might be to spray plastic friendly contact cleaner into the switch. If that makes a difference, then the remove and strip it down is warranted to get rid of 18 years of dirt.

This is exactly what needs to be done, I had issues with some of the buttons, a quick disassemble and clean fixed everything up nicely.
