2008 ABS Model ~ ABS Issues

Good Morning , I have a nice 2008 ABS ST1300 , here in the Sunny UK.

Recently she has intermittantly thrown the flashing ABS light on medium rides , never at start of ride , always at randomn times on the ride .
Not all the time , just randomn days .

I've cleaned and checked rings and sensors , no issues .

I am not a huge fan of ABS , am I correct in thinking that ABS issues result in Fail Off , no matter what the electronic issue . (I.E. Ride on , with the only issue being no ABS)

My next issue will be , Can I fir a non ABS instrument cluster to my bike , will it fit ?
The reason for that is simple , the Annual Government roadworthiness in Northern Ireland requires ABS fitted vehicles to show self test at start and then
no more lights on dash , or its a Fail and non roadworthy.

The irony is you can remove the ABS from a bike of my age with no penalty , except if there is a light on the dash , it must be functional .

Would non ABS clocks work ?

Im in no hurry to chase down the gremlin causing this .

But the abs light comes on at the start anyway and doesn’t go out until both wheels have rolled forward at about 6mph. They aren’t allowed to ride them, so how will they know.

The bike brakes work fine without ABS being operational.
Check the sensor connectors for corrosion, sloppy terminal fittings. Check the gap. Check your front wheel installation - if not done properly the wheel can move around a tad on its axle so the gap between ring and sensor will change on the 2008 model with the slotted steel pulsar ring.
Sensor is magnetic - check it for bits of metal, wire brush strands etc. check the rear ring for hairline cracks, debris in the castellations.

Edit - Also take a look at the earth point on the frame cross member at the rear of the tank - just in front of where the front seat was after you remove it. By ‘take a look’ I mean undo the bolt, clean up the copper terminal ring so that it is shiny metal, do the same with the frame. Put it back together. Set your clock to the correct time.

Also check the health of the battery and connections there.
I know on ST1100 ABSIIs the ABS will do all sorts of weird things when the battery is beginning to fail.
