I am planning on getting the 90 watt heated jacket liner, & dual controller from FirstGear next month. I am looking at purchasing from Motorcycle Superstore, unless someone has a better option / suggestion. Also would love to hear from those that have, & use FirstGear STuff.

Thanks, Gary.

I use First Gear gear. Do believe all the electric stuff is made by Warm-n-Safe.

I have 2 jackets and 2 pants by First Gear love their stuff, one textile set and one leather set. I do use their heat controllers. but not the heated liners.

Check their prices vs Warm-N-Safe. You can get a group discount with the manufacturer.

It is. I have a W&S Gneration 4 liner that I really like and was also very happy with the customer service I got when exchanging the one I ordered for a better size.

Warm & Safe used to give a pretty steep discount (20% if I remember correctly) to members of this site. I think you can get set up for that when you register with them.

I've had the 90W First Gear Jacket Liner, heated gloves, and dual controller for about 3 years and they have worked great. Only complaint is there's one wire in the glove that irritates a knuckle on my clutch hand. That's a minor issue for staying warm!

Hi,
I'm new to the touring bike world so have no idea what type of connectors I need if I want to buy heated clothing. The bike came with the MCL sport touring handlebar risers which come with a Powerlet socket installed. What type of cable do I need to buy so fits in the Powerlet socket and allows to connect heated gear?

Your help is greatly appreciated.

GreenZR. I just bought First Gear rider gloves and jacket liner at local dealer..........closing them out at 40% off!

Ended up $78 for the gloves # 512810-1 and $120 for the liner #512788. Call Pro Caliber 360-892-3030 or 866-796-5020

I bought a different brand controller elsewhere (Cycle Gear $60) because the First Gear was too complicated and spendy. Pro Caliber still had liners and some gloves Saturday. They fired up and worked fine.

Thank you Mellow. But as I said, I'm new to this. So silly question, I think I'd need a splitter of some sort if I want to connect gloves, jacket, and pants, right? Can I power all this gear with the single powerlet socket, or do I need to install another one. Also, is the cable that suggested specific for the Firstgear brand, or is it good for any brand? Also, I'm going to need power for GPS.

Actually, you'll want to check the fuse on the MCL risers connection to see if it can handle heated gear... I don't remember what it's rated for so it may not be an option. I would install a separate one on the left side of your fairing or order the battery connector here:
http://www.warmnsafe.com/power-harness-with-coax-connector/
Route it to the left side of the bike from under the seat so you can connect while on or off the bike and then get on the bike.

The jacket liners today are wired such that one powered input - from the connector above - will power both the jacket and gloves and the jacket will have plugs in the sleeves to connect the gloves. They are also wired such that if you feel the jacket or gloves need separate heat controllers, you can get those later. I have the dual controller and it's a nice thing to adjust the gloves higher than the jacket. With good insulated gloves, you may decide to not even go with heated gloves at all... keeping your core temp warm is the key and gloves are just icing on the cake - but nice to have.

For years I only used an on/off switch for the heated stuff or plugged/unplugged as I needed but the controllers are sweet. It all starts to get pricey quick so I would start with just a jacket liner but I would get the dual controller just for future considerations. Being that you're in Canada... I would probably just invest in it all .. LOL

I just ordered the gen 4 jacket liner and dual controller from Warm & Safe tonight. I will post a review in the vendor feedback after I check it out.

Gary.

Thanks Gary, please post in the product review sub-forum - the vender feedback is for about the vendor experience and info rather that product reviews.

Will do! Since I ordered direct from them, I'll put something in on the order experience. And put a review in the right place later.

Gary.
