This last weekend I drove out to just north of Santa Barbara CA for my 55th High School Class Reunion. While there I rode my
around on Saturday to visit my old stomping grounds.
I stopped by my old house and talked to the current owner, who's been there since 2016. We moved out in March/April 1970, just before my graduation.
The first thing I told the current owner was that around 1964 or 65, my dad had brought the 12" to 18" redwood tree, in the back yard, from a State Park in Northern CA, when my brother and I planted it. I was surprised because, he got all excited and started putting the information I was giving him on his phone. He told me that one of the reasons he bought that particular house was for the redwood tree.
He had thought it was a tree that was planted as a wind break for the old Walnut Grove that used to be there. At one time there were three walnut trees in the back yard. He said the last one died a number of years ago. Also, come to find out, he was the horticulturist teacher at Santa Barbara High School. (Not the same high school I went to).
He took me back to it so I could get a good look at it.
WOW, that thing has grown! Notice the telephone pole, just to the left.
