I believe the abs system changed on the ST1100. What year did the change take place if what I have been told is true?

Best regards Mal

Yep, 1996 was the first year for ABSII. You can easily tell the difference... the ABSII has 3 pot calipers front and rear, versus the 2 pot on the ABSI

Also introduced was the linked braking with the '96 ABS models. Standard models continued with the same braking system and components as before.

Hi. My forks are 43mm so that confirms it. I was concerned that the bike had stood in dealer stock for a long time., which can happen here in the UK.

Mal, you should have a plate/sticker under the seat which will identify the the model, mine for example is a ST1100W = 98.

Yes, I found out what it meant a day ago. It's an AY which I believe is 2000.
Mal, also up north in Lancaster.

A few miles south... but I have been over the passes, quite exciting particularly in the winter, (we don't get many harsh winters here).

Yes, an ST1100AY is what Honda calls a year 2000 ABS II model. The Y should also be in the tenth position of your frame number (plate).

It was the last year for any ST1100 Pan European, I think, but there were year 2001 and 2002 ABS II models made for North Americans. Only the paint color of those is different than yours, I think.
