I need help. My 1992 Honda st1100 needs an alternator. The shop says they can't find one. The ones on eBay are for models after mine. The shop told me those model years on eBay won't fit mine..I can only replace it within the years 1990 to 1992. Nobody has that alternator. Rebuild shops in my area say they cant find parts to rebuild mine with. I live in central Alabama

I don't know. They told me that my motorcycle engine was only made for 2 years and the alternator on it has to be that same exact one because the other alternators made for models after that won't fit it.

Welcome to the forum.

All 1100s before '96 had the same 28a alternator.

FZ750's kit has everything you need to convert yours to the same 40a unit '96 and later came with.

It's better in every way than the 28a, and the wiring change is simple.

Ok thanks. I was ready to give up hope. But I'm not the one doing the work on the motorcycle. It's a local motorcycle shop that will be doing the work. Is the wiring basically plug and play?

Hello
I have to complete kit to upgrade your 1992. The adapter plate was obsolete and a few years ago I made some in my shop. I have sold 130 with good feedback and excellent results. I now sell complete kit alternator, shaft, plate, two bearings and bolts. The price is 530.00 with free shipping.

The upgrade is pretty straightforward. Their several detailed listing on line showing the exact procedures. Wiring is simple.

If you are going to that much trouble, I would upgrade to the later model 40 ampers.
There is a gentleman on this forum that sells the necessary adapter plate and stuff.
And another one who has a loaner kit to make the job a lot easier.
Search on this forum and you will find tons of info on it.

Not to discourage you but it is not a completely by the shop manual job to do it the easiest way. The other forum fz posted has good instructions on how to do it. Also it is still a pretty labor intensive job. If you was closer i would help you do it.
