In conversations with my wife after the last trip I took on my 2008 gl1800 she made me an offer I couldn’t refuse. She said in essence get rid of all three of your current bikes and you can get a newer one. I was pleasantly startled but after some more back and forth she held firm in her offer (We make all of our big financial decisions together so it was important to me that we agree).

I’d been looking at the 2018 and above Goldwings and BMW RT bikes. I knew that between three shops in town both were available. I went to the one that had a several pre-owned 2018-2021 Goldwings first. In researching it looked like the 21 had standard fog lights, a bigger cargo option, some updates to the dct, a slight change in seating cushioning, and was setup for xm radio. The 2018 that was dct and much less cost but similar miles had sold before I arrived. The 2018 that was there was a manual trans.
We talked preliminary numbers, I test road the the 2021 for a short distance, redid the numbers with my 2008 goldwing in trade and finalized the deal.
So now I am one goldwing down and one goldwing up. They delivered me and the bike home last night, I opted not to ride in Portland rush hour traffic the 45 minutes it would take to get home on a new to me unfamiliar bike.
The part of the deal that I liked was that instead of me taking off all my auxiliary (farkles) the sales manager offered for their service dept to take them off for me, leaving the old bike and taking the new one home. The guy who delivered bike and I took back a standard windshield and oem seat to reinstall. This is a pretty big convenience for me, and I’m sure for him as well.
The caveat for the 3 bikes for 1 was that I keep my ST1300 until I am sure I want to keep the new goldwing. So I’m going to be getting rid of the 2002 ST1100, and the 2008 goldwing is gone.
We have a couple of days with some decent weather ahead so I will update how I’m jiving with the new to me bike. And I’ll post some better photos. For now though here’s one from last night. (not sure how to make photo right side up, its properly aligned on my computer)

At first I was horrified and apprehensive at the thought of deleting 3 bikes for 1.
But as the 1st was already a GW, and the 2nd was the lowly 1100 (I kid! relax, guys.), I was feeling a little bit better about it... UNTIL! You're losing a 1300?!
I like the Wings and all, but I would have to negotiate keeping the 1300. Seems like a reasonable compromise, and apparently you're not lacking in space to park them all.
That's why I stipulated to my wife, before engagement... don't ever, ever, EVER! ask me to sell a motorcycle.
I was riding long before we met, and that won't change.
And that is just about the ONLY thing that has remained constant in our 25 years of marriage...

Pretty interesting topic. How do you feel about parting with the 2 STs? My brother came to visit in SC from CO last week and he used the 94 all week- I used the 2000 and the Silverwing. For me, it would be tough to part with any of mine as I still enjoy riding them all and want something here for when my brother comes to town (every case is different, so I get it if you don’t have other riders in the family).

By the way, nice bike- I didn’t see it written, DCT or manual?

Nice new bike! I hope you enjoy it as much as I enjoy mine.

After owning a newer (>18) Goldwing selling the ST1300 wouldn't seem like such a big deal. New Goldwings are that good.

Interesting topic indeed as I occasionally go through similar mental gymnastics. I really liked my Moto Guzzi in spite of the fact that it turned into a bit of a problem that fortunately ended well. I sometimes think maybe try another one or maybe one of the new Hondas coming out soon. Then I keep coming back to I really like riding my NC750 and Goldwing a lot. I'm really happy on either bike all the time. So why bother with another? No matter how good it is a third bike would only take away from seat time from the 2 I really like riding now. What's to be gained? I'm in a happy place and staying put. As you said every case is different.

Above statement subject to change without notice:rolleyes:

Excellent! I think that I might follow a similar path in the foreseeable future; like a 3-4 yr time horizon.

But I have to see what this new batch of sport tourers are like. That CBR1000GT is checking a lot of my boxes. I miss the howl of an in-line four stretching its legs.

@Sadisor- time will tell how I am enjoying the 2021 Goldwing. I’m keeping the 1300 until I’m certain. That may morph into who knows what. Maybe my wife will take up riding, stranger things have happened.

@Erdoc48 it wasn’t as tough to part with the traded gl1800. I just put 1600 miles on brand new tires( Michelin Pilot W GT tires) and those were harder to say goodbye to than the bike itself.
The ST1100 I’ve had since 2009 and have been trying to emotionally move it out since 2012ish when I got my first ST1300. I just couldn’t for a variety of more personal reasons based on what the bike had carried me through those first two years. The ergonomics aren’t right for me even with Helibars and russell seat. It’s time to let it go though that’s the real reason aside from the new bike.
The st1300 time will tell and depends on how comfortable I am with the new bike and if anything changes here at home. I could leave it at my parents home in Southern California and use it in the winters when riding in the Pacific Northwest is more hit and miss. That would be leaning on the out of sight out of mind axiom.
There’s bikes fit in my garage but not comfortably at all. So the extra space will be helpful.
I don’t have anyone I know that rides like your scenario although that would be great!
Sorry forgot to mention, its a 2021 Tour DCT.
