Autocom 7 pin headsets on a Goldwing

I've got two seven pin Autocom headsets spare, and I know that these will not be a direct connection to the 5 pin din plugs on the GL1800. I'd prefer that my old headsets don't go to waste.

I know the pin outs for the 'wing, so is it possible to make an adaptor to go from 5 to 7 pins? Will a couple of din plugs do the job or am I going to need loads of extra electronics as well? I'm reasonably handy with a soldering iron.

The trick might be finding a diagram for the GL 5 pin connector. Once you have this putting a new 5 pin on your head set should be easy enough. I'm planning to replace the 7 pin on the end of my autocom set to ahve an easier connection at my helmet. I'll let you know the 7 pin diagram when I cut it and ring out the wires.

See if these guys can help...http://electricalconnection.com/

The Autocom headset pinout is arranged as in the pic below (showed from solder side, so you can compare it with the female plug on the GoldWing).

You could make a short lead that converts 7-pin DIN to 5-pin, or convert either one of the connectors. The speaker grounds can be moved to the centre pin to match that of the GoldWing's layout. Should be easy-peasy.

Cheer Hound. I'd worked out which were paired, but I had no way of knowing which was + and -. Results and photos will be posted here when i make the adaptor - I'll be visiting Maplin this weekend.

Update...

As it turned out, one of the Autocom headsets took a bit more abuse in the off than I had previously detected. I attempted making an adaptor, however one of the mics on the headset was broken. In the end I bought a pair of starcom headsets for half the price of the genuine Honda article, and so far they work a treat.

If anyone already has a starcom headset and wants a wing, Starcom make an adaptor lead so you don't have to remove your existing headset.

Thanks for all the advice.

Hi, Do you have a link for that? I have a starcomm headset for my GS and would like to use it on my new (to me) 05 goldwing with an Autocomm system that has a 7 pin plug. Thanks in advance.

Be interesting to hear how this works out. I believe both starcom and autocom headsets are electect mics that requied a small amount of power to operate.

The goldwing I am pretty sure is set up for dynamic mics. These work on a different priciple.

We went out and bought a pair of Starcom headsets with their adaptor lead to work with the wing. This was mainly down to the Autocom headsets being damaged in the crash, however as I now understand it, the Autocom headsets on their own will not work with a Wing. Autocom make an adaptor box to let your Autocom headset work with a Wing. Link

I would call Ed at Edsets.com . He sells an adapter which works with a variety of 5/6/7 pin.

Part # 1048 list price 74.00 allows the use of autocom 7 pin headsets with a stock goldwing system, it has a power cord so the mike can be activated electronicly. I do not know anyone who has these in stock but I will keep my eye out for 2. Kieth
