I got my Pro 7 in today from Autocom. Couple of questions to the collective since we have so much experience on this board after the group buy earlier in the year. :bow1:

1. I have two headsets and the Unit, a VOX/PTT/Constant switch, a motorola trancever adapter and a transcever extension and the power kit for the Pro 7 to run it from the bike.

Questions:
Are the headset leads long enough to use or do I need to go back and order extensions?
Will 7 pin DIN PC cables work for the extensions or do I need to order from Autocom?
Any big tips on the install? Planning to place in tail cone and run leads to front of tank to hookup Radio and music/ cell phone in tankbag. Saw the posts on the front left pocket but I am afraid of the heat in there.

This thing looks VERY well made! Heavy duty connectors, cables and headsets. Much more sturdy looking than the Starcom.

Phew

I will try and answer some of your questions but it is late here in the UK!

If you are seating the main unit at the rear, the passenger lead will certainly hook up to the pillion lead as standard. I use coil leads for the wifey from the headset down to that feed and there are no problems, I find the coil leads are better then the straight ones.

Now, from the main unit at the rear of the ST, the rider lead can be fed to a point on the left side of the bike, it comes out at the front of the left hand plastic panel. Of course, you can feed it to the right of that panel, but if you do, make sure your headset lead comes out on the right hand side of the helmet. If you dont do this, it will mean that the leads get crossed. I run all leads to the left of the bike, both for pillion and rider, but again, we ride on the left side of the road in the UK!

Once you have the main units working rider to pillion and back, you can then start to add on if you wish.

Cellphone. My cellphone or mobile as we call them here, sits in the right hand fairing pocket. I have packed the pocket with other goodies that I use, and the cellphone just sits on top of a pice of foam. So now I have run a lead from the rear of the Autocom unit, down the right hand side of the bike and it comes up into the right hand fairing pocket. YES, I did have to put a hole in the pocket to take the cable and it was awkward because of the tank. But now I have the main unit underneath the rear, the passenger lead comes out at the rear left of the bike. The rider lead is fed from the unit to the left side and comes out just in front of the left hand plastic cover.

Easy to connect, but as I say, all rider and pillion leads are set up so the lead comes out from the left side of the helmet.

So now we can look at the set up. You have rider to pillion done, and also your cellphone is in situ. For th cellphone, I use the right hand pocket of the fairing because I have the Honda Radio system in the left side.

This is the basic set up for an Autocom system on the bike.

The Honda radio system is fed from the bike, but I also run bike to bike radio AND GPS.

I will leave it as a basic set up, and if you want more just post for further information. I have run the Autocom system for years, both on the ST1100 and 1300. I run pilllion, cell phone, bike to bike, music and GPS, it is brilliant once you get sorted out.

Hope this has been of some help to you.

Thanks,

Anybody who would be that detailed at 1147 zulu is truly a friend.:bow1: That was a lot of information and it gets me started. I went and did some lead measuring and it looks like with careful planning I can get everything where it needs to go.

I really appreciate the info Mick, Feedback as I progress.

If you put your unit... he he he, under your seat... he he he, your leads will reach the front with no problems. I have mine under there and it fits perfect ( with a heavy duty Corbin too ).

FWIW :)

Duude...

Putting my unit under my seat is a problem I try to avoid. ;)

I guess I am going to have to do some evaluations. I want to put the main unit in the tailcone, since I do not have ABS there is plenty of room. I also want my lead to come out in front of the seat and the passenger lead to come out on the right side next to the bag. I bought the extension for the FRS transcever and a the PTT/Vox switch, plenty of length there and the cell and music leads are pretty long, should be able to get them to the tank bag where the cell and MP3 live.

I can always run everything from the tankbag for a while, the Pro runs fine on a 9volt. I thought about where that "place for your stuff" tube fits under the sargent and I am going to look at that. also saw where someone fitted near the battery, don't like that one in case I ever fall down, go boom and leak acid.

Oh, well I guess I will have to "work" on the bike some this weekend...
