I've only had my ST1300 for a short while and I've not ridden it long distance, but I'm considering a set of bar risers. I'm somewhere in the area of 5-10, with a 30" inseam (cause some of us have less torso and more leg). According to cycle-ergo.com that puts be at about 11° lean, with my V65 Magna I was 0°. On the short rides I've taken I notice some discomfort between my shoulders.

Original Helibar Risers
  • 1" Taller
  • 2" Rear offset
Current Helibar Risers
  • 2” Taller (50mm) than stock*, 1” (25mm) higher compared to the HeliBars original design.
  • 2.5” Rear Offset (62mm) closer to the rider*, 1/2” (12mm) additional reduction in reach compared to the HeliBars original design.
Genmar
  • 1-1/4" Taller
  • 1" Rear offset
I understand they are police risers as well, but I have no information on them.

If you have installed risers my questions to you are:
  1. How tall are you?
  2. What's your inseam?
  3. Which risers did you get?
  4. How did they improve your comfort?
Thanks for the insights.

I have an ST 1100 and like you I an 5'9" with a 30 inch inseam. I too had back discomfort on longer rides even with a set of Heli Bars. I went to 1.5" ROX risers to see if that helped. The first ride after installing them my wife called after 4 hours and asked if I planned on coming home. I also have found at least on the 1100 that the more upright change in seating position helped with handling as well. Never been on a 1300 but love the risers on my 1100.

1. 6'3" (191cm)
2. 33" (84cm)
3. GenMar
4. They placed the bars exactly where I wanted them.

I have standard footpegs and seat (middle position).

According to cycle-ergo.com, on my ST1300 this gives me a forward lean of 2°, knee angle 79°, hip angle 85°.

My figures for the VFR1200X with 30mm risers are broadly similar: forward lean 0°, knee angle 83°, hip angle 86°.

And apparently I'm much thinner there than in real life! :rofl1:

Didn't notice a problem at the 2019 RockSTOC 5 ( Haven't ridden enough in the last 2 years to remember if they helped or not ! )

Hello, been a lurker here for a bit now making a post myself. I am 5' 10" with a 30" inseam, mid 50's so no longer a kid either.

I bought a 2003 ST1300 last year, came with Helibars installed. My earlier bikes were a GL1100 and later a CB1000F. I have spent far more time until recently on dirt bikes than on the street.

I found the seating position immediately comfortable and normal on the ST. I never rode with stock bars so I can't compare. My issue is MUCH more with the seat. I have a Corbin seat on the CB and am leaning heavily in that direction for the ST.

But I have definitely been thrilled thus far with this motorcycle. Not perfect by any means, but certainly aligns with what I wanted out if it. I am pleasantly surprised how eager I am for riding season to really arrive here in WI.

I'm also 6'3", about 230 lb, about 32" inseam, but I buy longer pants for riding legroom.

I have the original Helibars on top of 3" risers, as well as a thicker-than-stock RDL seat.

To be honest, I wouldn't complain if they were a bit taller.

5' 11"
30" inseam
Heli bar 3.2 + Gen Mar
Those risers combined with a Russell seat have made the last 80,000 miles very enjoyable.

I have Heli bar risers, not sure what generation or offset at the moment, but it's not a significant change.
I'm 5'11", 32" inseam with an RDL seat in the middle position. My feet don't fully touch the ground while stopped.
I find that I'm always reaching ahead for the handle bars like my arms aren't long enough. I have a tall torso and feel like I'm sitting too high also.
My seating position is more upright which I like and was one of the reasons I bought the bike, because I have lower back discomfort.
I think I would benefit from a taller handlebar position and further back towards the rider like Larry Fine has on his bike, to get the most comfortable.
I may experiment with different set ups in the future.

I understand they are police risers as well, but I have no information on them.
I seem to recall reading here that the police risers and the Genmar risers are one in the same.
i.e. Genmar was the manufacturer of the police risers for Honda, and sold the same product under their name.
Someone may be able to confirm.

This thread could be a valuable resource for other people looking for the same information.
In addition to asking for people's height and inseam measurements, it might be useful to ask people to include their arm length (sleeve length) measurement as well, for those who know it.
Arm length varies for people of the same height as does inseam measurement. Not everyone of the same height will have the same length arms, which affects how much rear offset they might want.

5’6” with a 29” inseam and in my mid 50’s. My ST’s came with HeliBars risers and one with police risers too (1”or so rise, no rear offset I believe). I prefer stock height bars and removed the risers from all of them. I’m also in the process of swapping out the wider bars on my police model. I prefer a bit of a forward lean to a bolt upright riding position and feel handling is better that way too. Nobody can tell you what’s right for you though. You just have to try some things and decide what fits you and your preferences best.

  3. Which risers did you get? Helibar 3.2
  4. How did they improve your comfort? Amazing, can't go without

Being fairly new to the site I wasn't sure what to expect for response, but you guys have been very helpful in making this decision. I think I'll be picking up a st of risers soon.

Careful now, rugrats are a big commitment and costly. Especially a pair of them. Maybe just get the riser you were considering:rofl1:

5'4 32" inseam. Used to My 1500 wing ergos so on myu 1300 I went w a Corbin seat and " put on a pair of Oxmart adjustable bars. I first did them 1" risers but that was too short so I justt ordered 5.5 and we will see how that works

5 10.5 , 32 inseam, my heli bars clear the tank by about 1.5 inches pulled over; never had original bars.
Perfect for short bits and agressive driving but wouldnt mind a bit more on the long haul
