I've been working on five bikes all day so this will be brief.

Beware the Ides of Mouse.

This bike was a GovDeals 2016 parts special from the Auburn AL Police Dept. No information no start no hardware, nada. There were three others that went for 3500 and 5800. I scored this for $700. Oh goodie, a challenge! Get in the car.

When I talked to the city fleet guy, the only thing they knew was the bike wouldn't run and the local dealership tore it apart trying to figure out the problem. As they could not figure out the problem, it was used to supply the other bikes in their fleet with parts then eventually sold off. I finally got to it after a month of fixing everyone else's broke bikes and put it on the table. I have a headlight assembly so let's see how it goes: Fuel pump primes and the lights come on. So far we're batting 1000%. Go for main engine start, it runs!! then promptly dies. I'm thinking, ok the fuel pump is exposed let's throw another one in there and go from there. Chatted with @Igofar and I have a battle plan.

No dice.

Second fuel pump does the exact same thing. Ok let's move on to the throttle bodies. One thing I notice while opening up the air box is how none of the hardware had ever been removed by the dealership. They literally tore it apart and didn't bother to put any of the parts back on while trying to figure out why the bike would not start. So I removed the air box and discover: THE CRIME SCENE!!

What took me an hour to find including changing out the fuel pump the dealership was unable to locate in over a year of troubleshooting. There are several other Auburn ST's out there that I have not inspected or been asked to inspect. If you come across any of these bikes they must be inspected for rodent damage. Because if one bike from a fleet has rodent damage, they are all going to have rodent damage....

Those little buggers do love the ST1300. I lost count of them. I've used everything. They made a $%^&ing nest in Cayenne pepper infused steel wool!
EDIT: Thanks for reminding me I need to check again

Did it come with any bodywork at all?
One lower cowl could set you back what you paid for the $700 bike.
Still seems to be a great buy!
