Your existence is statistically improbable.
So is getting through a Monday without incident... :coffee:

G'Day...

-6°/-1°C, partially sunny (so again the nice pinkish hue dawn on my way to work), but more snow for late afternoon, evening and night predicted (read: another "snow warning" issued...)

just finished my office mug... ☕

interesting how public life seems to seize over lousy 5cm/2" of snow these days... panic everywhere, train services delayed, etc... :cautious:
In my youth we had like at least 1 meter/3ft of snow, and 'winter' lasted from end of October till March... ❄️

Most entertaining are the (serious!) public complaints towards the city about not cleared bicycle lanes...
Right, like the plow crews wouldn't have other priorities... (first come roadways with public bus/tram services, then the major "traffic arteries"...)
That pushbikes might not be the smartest choice in snow and ice, doesn't seem to dawn to them... (how many motorcycles are out?... ah-ja... ;))
Wanna safe the planet? How about taking the bus? Or there is an idea: spit in your hands and grab a shovel!!! :devilish:
Still not 'climate neutral' though, pretty sure they're all quite"flatulent"... but insisting that heavy, diesel powered plants clear only their paths misses the point entirely...

A dermatologist's appointment later, just precautionary checkup... no new paint-job for this old rig though... ;)

enjoy the start of a new week...

Thx Martin!
Solare keratose is luckily treatable…

3˚c/37f, 40mph wind, gusting at 56mph, overcast.

A bit windy for a walk, but I might tag along Mrs Stu to the nursing home, and then walk home in the tailwind.

Not much else, stay safe and walk like a penguin!

Good morning everyone

Thanks for the start-of-the-week coffee, Martin.

It's 30°F (feels like 17) and mostly cloudy in Rockville. Mostly sunny with a high around 45 is the call. A cool front blew in yesterday, quite literally: we experienced strong, gusty wind for several hours. It's calmed somewhat overnight bit is still blowing at 8 mph with gusts up to 18 or so, from the WNW. It'll pick up to about 10 mph for much of the day then taper off to virtually calm around 1900 - 2000 hours, shifting to SSW as it tails off.

I should be able to finish the bench / chest today, even if Mrs. Fun strongarms me into driving her to Costco at some point. I hate going there, particularly with her. Where my shopping pattern is a laser-focused exercise in get-in-get-the-stuff-get-out-as-quickly-as-humanly-possible, hers resembles that of an explorer bee that has returned to the hive and is doing the "Nectar this way" dance: a meandering, twisting, contorted, seemingly-random path through the labyrinth of shelves and display areas, where each and every item must be picked up, handled, and examined before being abandoned.

Stay safe and well everyone and tell your dear ones you love them. Do it today, NOW, for tomorrow may be too late.

Despite decades of outdoor/rooftop activities (HVAC...), nothing to detect... doc was quite pleased (or not, as she couldn't sell me anything... ;) )

My sympathy, I can relate though...

Martin gets the party started, again. Or the calendar does, or the clock. It's gotta be one of those things.
Reminded this morning of a Rodney Crowell line (singer, songwriter, musician)... "a man stumbled home from a lost weekend, it's not for me to judge". I'm not stumbling, but it is indeed another lost weekend.
Nothing done, nothing to report.
Except nothing further done on the Element, and it's 29° upon waking this morning. Little warmer tomorrow, high of 55. That's doable.
Oh, one thing to report.
Finally decided to move off of Verizon to PureTalk, it's been a bit of a hassle so far. PT recorded the wrong IMEI (E I, E I O?) number, and my phone still isn't 100%. Every time I call them, I have to go through the whole darn story from the beginning, it's as if no one takes notes and puts them in the ticket notes.
Having spent a few dismal years working in help desk environments, I know a bit about how it's supposed to work. The money saved is attractive, but the hassle factor is of the charts for now.
Hopefully once it's sorted, I can just use our phones and pay the bills without another thought.
Oh, and since I have now canceled Verizon, it's as if I never existed. That's nice, as I was a customer for 23 years, and have paid them literally $30 to $35k, if not more, over that time for all my tech devices. But I still have to deal with them for the transfer PINs... one for each device, which they overlooked to tell me when I was switching, so they gave me only one transfer PIN, like they didn't have two decades of my history to look at.
None of this is leaving me with a warm fuzzy feeling. Worse than that is, I am treated like my hard-earned money means nothing to them, either.
And that is the news from Lake Woebegone, where the women are strong, the men are good looking, and all the children are above average.
(Bonus points to all those who know the reference.)
But the pain is temporary.
It HAS to be.

Good morning, and thanks for the coffee, Martin.

It's clear and 25 in MA this morning, rising to 37 with some wind to make it feel cooler, later.

We had a great visit with our son and the two grandkids, yesterday.
Worked with Playdoh, puzzles, and blocks with Elouise, Brenda and Joe, and helped Oliver stand and almost-walk. Both are a joy to see.
Joe made some naan pizzas and we all helped by picking and placing ingrediants on our selected pie.
Just before we were leaving, Joe's wife, Megan, arrived back home from her trip to PA, so we got to visit with her as well.

Today, I'll visit the gym, and then move on to whatever else.

Enjoy the day,
Steve

Most entertaining are the (serious!) public complaints towards the city about not cleared bicycle lanes...
They clear the bicycle paths here now as well, which is a source of frustration for many people after every snowstorm as somehow often the bicycle paths are cleared before many of the sidewalks are. I have no objection to people biking in the winter or with the bike paths being cleared. This is a winter climate however, and what I do not understand is people putting themselves in serious danger by bicycling during a snowstorm and immediately after before the roads have been properly cleared. I see bicyclists riding along the slippery snow and ice covered roads all the time during snow storms and I always think that they are incredibly stupid. These are regular bikes, not the winter fat bikes. Those bicycle tires don't provide much traction, one slide and the bicycle goes down right in front of all of the traffic that is moving along only inches away from them because the roads are already narrow due to the snow accumulation. It seems to me that for their own safety these people can use an alternate means of transportation for a mere one or two days until the crews get the roads in to safe bicycling condition again.

Reminded me of something that I saw just a couple of days ago. We had an ice storm a few weeks ago. Then we have had two snowfalls. Around me the city clears the bike paths of snow but they do not put down any salt or abrasives because all of the bike paths go through protected parks. There was a group of bicyclists riding along at break-neck speeds as if it was mid-summer with perfectly clear paths. One of them slipped on the ice going around a curve and face-planted. How anyone can think that they can ride a bike path in Montreal in January the same way that they would in July is mind boggling. I stopped to check and he was fine, he got up and went on his way. It might not be very generous to say but I thought to myself that he got what he deserved. Maybe next time he will use a little common sense.

Good Morning, Thanks Martin for starting the conversation. Knock on wood we have not had Snow in Delta yet. Thanks you Global warming. I'm with Sadlsor I don't like the cold weather. Speaking of weather 8 C add 2 for the high, weather rock is going to be wet all day,if it stays put. Windy as well 29 mph from the SSE. Today's agenda answer call from my doctor, that it. Y'all stay alive and have a fun day G

Same can be said about cars on the roads in poor weather.
Very true except for one big and very consequential difference. Cars hitting each other at 30 Km/h overwhelmingly results in nothing more than an inconvenience. Never mind the proximity to large trucks and city buses, regardless of vehicle size a bicyclist being run over by any vehicle that he slid in front of or under pretty much always results in much more than an inconvenience for the bicyclist. The risk/reward calculation just doesn't come out in the bicyclists favour. Waiting a mere one or two days for the road crews to do their thing before getting back on their bikes provides a much higher probability that they will live to ride another day.

Morning all! Grey and wet. Groundhog Day(s). 9C now, 11C later.

I used to bicycle commute to work in the winter when I lived in Calgary. Got a used mountain bike and put studded tires on it. The city cleared the pathways with a jeep with a big sweeper broom on the front. The dangerous bits were getting to the pathways and from the pathways to work. I faceplanted once trying to hop a curb. Thankfully, the only damage was to the lens on my ski goggles. And my dignity; I had an audience who laughed. Anyway, as mentioned, the key was no sudden movements and plan ahead. It was a great way to start and end the day.

We've had water intrusion into the suite attached at the back of the house. The insurer sent out a restoration company this morning to take a look. The guy will try to determine cause. I suspect it will be an excluded loss; seepage is not covered, the water ingress has to be due to a sudden and accidental cause, e.g., tree falling on roof or some other catastrophe that opens up a hole where there were none before. It won't be a cheap fix either but it's gots to be done. I was kind of hoping 2026 might prove to be a better year....

Still, in the large scheme of things....I'd like a new schematic please.

Hope everyone has a great day and avoids intrusive thoughts, aqueous or otherwise!

Morning Martin & All from sunny, Southern Utah!

Currently it is 34F, up from 16F and heading for 40F. And it looks like it's going to be a warmer week, than last week. A very slight breeze now, but later the winds will be out of the NNW@ 6 to 7mph.

I'm still working on the WeSTOC 30 rides, I added a couple more for Adam to post on the WeSTOC site. And I'll add another one or so, later. But I'll be heading to pick up a prescription first.

Tonight we have a bi-weekly meeting with some of our church friends.

Eggs, bacon, toast & OJ to start the morning. Pepsi(s) on the menu for later.

Anyone :dr13:, have a great day on the roads! :hat3:

Nah! You should have gone with the times, grabbed your phone and only filmed him...

I've given up analyzing people's state of mind...
like the hundreds of folks running around on the barely frozen body of water... despite all urgent warnings by the city, the fire brigade and pretty much every other EMT around...

Well it's already afternoon here in SoMD. Not exactly how I expected this morning to go down, but could be worse I guess. My wife tweaked something in her back the other day during rehearsal, and yesterday while pulling out laundry, it reared its ugly head on her. So. she's been laid up and had to call out of work last night (she' works night shift). Still laid up today though easing. So, I've been caring for her today, ran to the pharmacy for some better meds and some lidocaine for it. She's still ouchy but tolerable. Between her and work, it's been a full morning.

47F/8C and another nice, sunny day. Those weatherpeople are threatening snow later this week. I have one of the two snowblowers tested and ready to sell, and the belt came for the other. Need to get those posted. A bunch of other little, nagging projects/fixits pester me in between actual work, wife excluded (of course). Time to git along, so take care y'all!

Good Afternoon, Doctor call at 10:45 this morning, to confirm I had a e-coli infection, thanking God for a good doctor, Emergency doctor was wrong. Spent this afternoon sorting through some of my Moms collection of papers and Christmas cards and came across this poem, liked it and figured I would share it with Y'all, GIMG_7698.jpg

good morning I sure as heck don't miss gripping a shovel and any of that, I still like to think that when I left Edmonton I could pick up an auger and drill a hole through the ice, like I did, watch the little fishys... not biting my hook.... sit there and drink my crown royal, but hey, someone stole my black tent and my auger... plus I'm thirty five years older, but I sure remember it, and enjoyed it, who knows...
