Not to be confused with bootleg. Does anyone else have a problem with your boots severely irritating your legs? Every time I wear my boots my legs/ankles get extremely itchy and stay that way for a week. I have only tried two different kinds of socks. I really don't know what they are other than they are different from each other. I have tried powder and athletes foot spray before and after even though it doesn't appear to be that. I believe it is because of heat. If I can't figure it out I'm going to have to go to low tops and I don't want to. The boots are not the vented type, but even 30 minutes or so of riding with the boots on messes up my legs.

All advice appreciated. Sock recommendation?

Re: Boot Leg

I like smartwool.

Is it heat rash? Maybe you need some different boots with venting. Or some socks that wick away moisture and are breathable.

"Maybe it has something to do with your user name?"
:rofl1:

Is it any better when it's cool out. I guess you have to figure out if it's heat related or maybe alergic reaction? I'd try washing comfortable socks that are long enough washed in a non scented hypoallergenic detergent no fabric softener etc.

I had some boots like that once. Did not matter what sock you wore because some of the stitching around the ankle stuck out a little when the padding was compressed. It acted like a sewing machine on my ankle.

OK I've got time on my hands... sorry... :)

avoid cotton.

polypropylene is the answer (like runners wear) or silk liners (like hikers wear) or smart wool as someone else suggested. anything that gets moisture away from the skin.

Wow. The cotton haters brigade is out in full force. Cheap heavy cotton athletic socks are horrible, but high quality cotton or cotton and silk blend socks work for me. For people with sensitive skin, cotton or silk may be the only thing they can wear, as all synthetics and wool cause irritation.

If it was a moisture management problem, it would be the feet more than the ankles. Sounds like it is something related to boot construction. I would try different boots.

I do believe it is a heat issue since I am so hot natured. I found the label from the socks I have been wearing. I have a new pair I have not worn yet. They were buy one get one free. "Bilt Racing MX Socks"

"A quick -drying blend of 75% acrylic, 15% spandex and 10% nylon combines hard-wearing durability with complete moisture control.

Terry-looped interior for all day comfort.

Ribbed knit cuff maintains placement."

Would that be comparable to what is mentioned above.

I have no idea what the other socks are, they are just plain old white socks.

Are there any type of mesh combat boots you could try? What boots are you using now?

The Boots are Frank Thomas. They say waterproof, maybe that has something to do with it. They fit pretty well and don't appear to be rubbing. I looked inside and can't find anything that should irritate. The socks are pretty thick. I haven't really looked for any mesh combat boots, but I'm keeping my eyes open for something else. My feet don't feel particularly hot, however they do sweat.

Sounds like a heat rash to me. I have an '07 ST 1300 DEGREES and I had problems until I started wearing plain old water resistant hiking boots. I also have highway pegs that I use to cool my feet down. I'd try different boots to start with though. ;)

Not to be intentionally cruel but the LD Rider Long johns have stopped any of those leg problems. Used to get moast with perspiration and also get chaffed around the edge of the boot. Bought the underwear and founs this as an added benefit. I'm the kind of guy that seats just putting my gear on, so any wicking is a huge plus for me. When I first saw the price tag of these I had a little hesitation, now all I can say is I should have bought them 30,000 miles ago. "This is NOt a paid endorsement " butt I will be wearing LD Comfort Long johns and long sleeve shirts every day in my IBR I have two pair one to wear and one to change into , you get the pic.

Hope this helps

A lot of people are allergic to spandex. You may be one of them. Suggest trying some high silk or cotton (or blend of these two) boot socks and see if the problem goes away.

I have the same problem. As of lately I have had some success with using anti monkey butt powder on my feet and legs before I go on a long ride. This seems to help me.

I use the anti monkey butt powder only because I always have a bottle on the bike but you probably could use just about any powder.
