Have researched the various threads, and am still not sure which ones I want. I am 5'8", 30" inseam. Am more interested in comfort then asthetics.

Want to be able to stretch my legs out comfortably, either by putting soles of boots on the peg/blade, or resting back of ankles on peg/blade. If you are close to my size and have tried both - would really like to hear from you.

I bought a set of used MCL Gen I wings off of here a month ago.

I am the same height as you with a 31" inseam. My riding boots have a 1-1/2" heel, so I don't have to worry about my boot slipping off outwards on the hwy wing. You can stretch your legs right out, but you slide a bit to the rear on the seat. Really nice add on as you can change up your riding position with them.
My boot really bites into the hwy wing and there is no slipping to a diifferent position while riding.
With my frame, I'm glad I went with the Gen I wings.
Just did 3000 miles with them and was glad I purchased them just before my trip.

The only part I don't like about them is it takes your foot away from the rear brake. Nice thing about the ST is it has linked braking.
Would be nice if someone designed forward controls for braking and shifting.

Do you have the lower air deflectors? If so Gen I for sure as you have shorter legs. I like my Gen II and I have the lower deflectors. This works but I also have 36" Inseams.

Because odds are you really are going to want Gen I it will come down to availability. Gen I wings are not made anymore. Though call them and maybe they will do a limited run. There are a lot of people that want them. If you can't find a set for sale then that kind of makes your decision for you.

So I take it that you are saying GEN II wings would be too far out for your feet to reach?

No, do not have lower air deflectors. Do you think the Gen II would work for 5'8" / 30" inseam?

It will likely come down to your boots. I think it will be a bit of a reach. Never used Gen I but I think the blades are 2" out further. Being you don't have the deflectors helps as you don't have to reach your legs around them. From what I recall reading from others, those with 30-32 inseam seem to like the Gen I better. That is what I recall reading in the past anyhow.

I have heard they are more comfortable for riders with a longer inseam. I have never tried a pair, but if anyone wants to send me up a pair of Gen II, I would be glad to do a comparison.
I have met Larry from MCL and he is tall. I'm sure that is why he developed the Gen II wings.

I have the genII and a 28" inseam and they work for me .

Gen 1 may be better. I never tried them and they are not available unless you can find a used set .

I am 5'8" with a 30" inseam and have the Gen2's with no deflectors. I use them all the time on the highway and my pillion puts her feet on the driver pegs to stretch a bit. My boots do not slip off unless the blades are wet, and even then it takes time for that to happen. With the nut on the end you can rest your boot right on top of the blades without slipping off for full leg extension. You really need to stretch the legs on long rides. I remember having knee pains after doing 500 miles once without the blades. Never again! YMMV

Thanks for informative response. Given that you are my size you have confirmed that the Gen II blades probably will work for me.

Do you have the deflectors? I see they have the GenII in stock now but I have a 30" inseam and the deflectors.

Are these a Hondaline assessory.

Yes, as mentioned this is a Hondaline accessory. It adds about 1" of width to the bike. When you go to put your legs out on Highway Wings having another inch to get your legs around may be the difference between them working for someone or not if you have short legs. I have the deflectors but it isn't an issue for me because I have very long legs.

I have and like the Buck Sport Tour pegs.... Innexpensive, functional, durable since 2005. I'm 5-6 and 30" inseam. Sitting in the pocket, with legs straight out, the back of my heels just above the ankle rest on the pegs. This allows a slight amount of wind up the riding pants...nice on hot days. With soles on the pegs, my knees are slightly bent..... but if I push back a bit, I can straighten my legs. It's nice to be able to rotate thru the positions. Cutting the tip over covers was the only difficulty....but they provide a template.
