I am going to invest in a carb sync gauge.

The choice seems to be

1. Mercury filled tube type

2. Motion Pro has a similar set up, but it uses a different liquid called manometer fluid.

3 Emgo makes circular gauges with arrows.

Soliciting pros and cons from the peanut gallery.

Thanks

A couple of options that don't use fluid:
Carbtune (that is their website; I believe you can buy them in the U.S. now).
A flow meter is a quicker way to tune carbs; but, there are people who feel that is very imprecise.
I have both and feel that while imprecise a flow meter carb sync sure does make the bike 'feel' better quickly...

The problem with a mercury filled instrument is, if you loose some mercury you can't get any to refill it. I just used a buddy's that is low on mercury and it was hard to read. we are looking for a few old thermostats that had the mercury in a glass bubble to recharge it.

I'm with U.P. on the flowmeter. Quick and easy to use, and I'll bet that from the rider's seat, based on my experience from having sync'ed my 1100's carbs with both, you won't be able to tell if the synch was done using mercury or air flow.

Thanks a bunch on this one. It looks like they are just over $100.00 with the pouch plus shipping.

Unless you can find it cheaper at Washowski or J.C. Whitney! LOL:roll:

Dang... 100 smackers... is there a communal one that gets sent around? I'm planning a ride up to Virginia in June and would like to sync the carbs before then, but budget won't have $100 in it for a tool to do it with.

+1 on the SK Flowmeter. I have the Morgan Carbtune and an SK. The SK is so much easier. By the time you get vacuum lines hooked up on the Carbtune you could just about be done with the carb synch using the SK.

Blrfl, I'll check it out, probably going to be doing my timing belt and cooling system stuff in a month... no, wait... three weeks now?? ;)
