Coolant Leak

Well, after the 8k service, the dealer found a coolant leak after I told em about the "oil" smell and dried green stuff I found on the frame. They had to order a special washer from Honda which is supposedly causing the leak.

Anyone else have this problem re: washer? Where are you coolant leaks coming from?

Mine was from the weep hole at the right front of the crankcase. It was caused from the water pump seal failing. Fortunately it did not let go 100%, just about 15% some of the time. Enough to lower the coolant level over 10k miles and sometimes have the swwet smell of a-freeze.

speaking of antifreeze leaks, last night i noticed one when i had the plastic off the 1100. not sure yet where it was coming from but someone has suggested it is from the hoses up top. nevertheless, a nightmare for one who likes to ride but probably couldn't fix a flat without tearing something else up. lol

did that require a whole new water pump or was the seal replaceable?

Seal, oil seal and bearing are replaceable. You also need the front crankcase gasket with the water pump cover o-ring.
