Counterfeit NGK plugs...

If the price is too good to pass up..... you better pass it up no matter what the product.

Buy stuff from reputable retailers even if it costs what it is supposed to cost.

I have used sparkplugs.com Other forums have recommended them, they apparently order directly from the manufacturers, no middle man so supposedly what they sell is the real deal.

Observation FWIW. These articles are giving the fraudsters the blueprint to correct their “mistakes” on the fake plugs.
I know if I was in the business of making fake plugs I would be looking out for these warning articles and using the info to correct my process problems that are causing the mistakes.
Just sayin’ :shrug1:

If you've never bought a real NGK plug before, these photos could help you identify a fake with no other point of reference.

If you're a counterfeiter, chances are pretty good you're going to have a real NGK plug in your hands to use as a reference, and would already have noticed these differences. The differences are small, and probably more costly to make an exact match to the NGK, so its a counterfeiting tradeoff. You can fool most of the people most of the time, and that maximizes your profit vs. trying to make an exact copy in all respects.

Yeah, I know. Catch-22…
More like a Catch-12. A few high-end watches are counterfeited and some quite well. A far cry from the Roleks you might find on a city street. But this well done fakes get a lot of money, so the ROI is worth it. Making a "perfect" counterfeit spark plug likely has little to no ROI. With the truth out there it means there's probably more carefully shoppers than dedicated spark plug counterfeiters.

You can always buy another brand of plugs that aren't targets of counterfeiters.

Just sent my ngk iridium back, I have to say they did look good, but they were cheap , the plugs in the bike have 31,000 and still look good, the stock plugs are fine by Honda’s standards ( also the white phone ) and that’s good enough for me.

Buy your plugs in person from a authorized NGK retailer. Here in the USA I buy from NAPA. Never got a bad one yet.

And even then you may get duped, depending on who they got them from.....
And if you are you have recourse…….. when they are handed to you across the counter. If shipped to you, a reputable retailer will likely stand behind the product. They don’t want to sell counterfeits any more than you want them.
