Would you consider one a sporty bike and one a cruiser? Feet under you and sit high, or have your feet out front of you and sit low. In general of course.
Hang with sports bikes or hang with V twins?
Whitch do you prefer?

I don't think you would like the NT700 Karl. My opinion is it is very down on power. I would by a Wee over it any day. I liked the NT as far as weight. It reminded me of the ST. Only it weighs a lot less. But it did not have enough power for me.
I think you would like the 1300 a lot better. I've never rode one. But I would like to.
I'm glad to see another bike is in the future for you. That must mean you are getting better. Don't rush it. But I hope to see you soon.

I demo'd the CTX, a couple of years ago. Reviewers could not peg the catagory it is designed to fit into,,, but it is right in the name. ST=sport-touring,,, CT=cruiser-touring. First thing you notice is the swept back handle bars. The powerplant is familiar, but that is the only thing that is sporty about it,,, imho,,, Cat'

Sorry,,, I don't know anything about the 700

I rode an NT a while back, and really liked it. I thought the power was good (needed to use the shifter more than on the ST,) and it handled well. It wasn't different enough from my ST1300, or I would have bought it. If you only have one bike, and lightness is a consideration, I think the NT makes sense.

I haven't ridden a Ctx, but I just can't get past the footpeg position. Also, it's down on power compared to the ST1300. Aesthetics are a personal matter, but I really can't deal with the general looks of the thing, either.

The $3900 difference in the two will buy a lot of farkles, gas, or whatever else you might want.

You'll get plenty of opinions, but it all comes down to which bike speaks to you. Given your history, I can't see you on a Ctx.

These bikes are so different that it's like asking, should I eat an apple or an orange?

nts' are a bit buzzy. I see a lot of them at bike shops and they don't seem to sell. RT&T has one for almost 2 years asking 4k

Thanks everyone for input test rode the nt700 now I hope to test ride the ctx1300 tomorrow

Of course I have an opinion on this, I really like mine. As said already it is truly what kind of ride you want. I'd consider a NT if I wanted a smaller engine and only planned to ride in the area close to home.
Reviewers have trouble categorizing the CTX1300 because Honda didn't design it to fit any of the normal categories. Touring/cruiser is closest. Foot position reminds me a lot of my old Gold Wing, which I liked a lot (other than the bulk of the GW). Power is no problem since all the torque is in the lower rpm range and maintains a flat curve past where most riders would use it anyway. You can always take a peek over on the CTX1300 forum to find more information about riders reviews and opinions. There are many former ST1300 riders there now. I keep my feet in both that forum and this one since there are so many parts and bits from the ST in the CTX. And also for the social aspect as well.

Since some owners of the ST1300 get hundreds of thousands of miles from the ~ 116 hp ST1300 engine , the de-tuned , lower hp CTX engine ( 76 or 83 hp , depending on source ) is very understressed that should last a very long time. Not to mention internally well -balanced & smooth running .

Honda did a nice job with the "re-tuning" of the engine for the CTX, following their latest philosophy towards drivability.

Comparing the torque curves, they eliminated the torque drop at 3000 RPM that we have with the ST. So in fact, the CTX is ahead on the power curve all the way up to 4500 RPM.

So...............what do you think?............I rode the CTX...............I could live with it. Glad you are feeling better! Russ.

Well the test ride of the ctx 1300 was ok but not inspiring I decided I may wait for a while before I buy a bike

Try a VStrom 650 Karl. It's a very fun bike and feels light as a feather vs some others.

Like Mellow said try a 650 V Strom really great bike , i have had a nt650 and a Nt700 and a VStrom and the VStrom was the best
I sold the NT700 to get the Vstrom and never looked back
The Nt700 was too heavy for the size engine and a little underpowered but the VStrom was light and fun and fast when you wanted it to be
Gilly
