DIY luggage rack opinions

Those of you who made your own what size did you settle with and would you do it differently if you did it again?

Thinking about 30"x18" 3/16" aluminum, but it kind of looks like it might take off on the conveyor The idea was to make it mount either long or wide over the pillion seat
for 1 up, and in the normal position for 2 up. Long ways to fashion a bicycle carrier.

I made mine about a foot square. I find it is not too big looking when nothing is on it and big enough to support any bag I want to lash to it. I "borrowed" some 1/2" thick phenolic from work. That's not 100% accurate, but my supervisor did give me a note sating it was scrap. :

Mine's 14x22. Love it, use it all the time and would not go any bigger. Make sure there are lots of tie down spots.
