Whatsup y'all, so I've had my 01' St1100 since April and everything has been running great. Changed the oil a two months ago and everything has been good. But as of this week. It's been having an overwhelming smell of exhaust. It happens when I start it up and it sits at idle. Not sure what to do at this point. Doesn't smell like eggs or anything it just smells like A LOT of exhaust. What do I need to do???

It could well be that it is the fact that it is colder now, outside, and it is running a denser mixture as a result. Probably a lot more condensation coming out of the pipes, correct?

I get that too. My suspicions are the idle adjustment is too rich. That's when you smell it, not when you are on the road.
Most people don't do the idle drop procedure, they just balance the carbs. After attempting the procedure I stopped at "good enough".
Some day I will get it dialed in properly, Some day.....

I get that too occasionally. I ts normal for a old carburated 25 year old motorcycle. I think it is because the carbs are old and my exhaust sounds louder than it did when it was new so I probably got a small leak somewhere but since it still runs good im just riding it. BTW my buddy has an old Suzuki 1500 intruder and a Yamaha star Venture both have carbs and his smell of exhaust too. We just acknowledge our bikes for what they are and just keep riding them.

Probably not a good idea to idle the bike in a closed garage. My one time auto mechanic, now a friend, was telling me at breakfast the other day that new cars spit out so little CO that it will take a while to build up a lethal dose in a garage. He was joking that if you want to kill yourself, go out and buy an older car.

Wait a minute --I thought if you were gonna buy a vehicle to kill yourself
it should be a liter bike??
(Which you ride wearing shorts and sandals and a T-shirt...)

🤷‍♂️
