My FI light come on when the engine revs over 4000 rpm. When I check the code, I get 2 long blinks and 6 short ones... does anyone know what that indicates? Maybe a knock sensor?

Loose or poor contact of knock sensor
Open or short connection.
Faulty knock sensor.

I'm still wondering why it doesn't come on when engine rpm is below 4000... it comes on after 5 to 10 seconds after the engine rpm is about 4300. Does that more indicate a faulty knock sensor?

Mine has just started doing the same thing but sometime it takes an hour or so before it does it. Two longs and six shorts is a knock sensor code. The bike is designed for the FI light not to come on unless you are around 4,000 RPM for several seconds. If you do a forum search you will find a lot of information. In my case the wiring to the knock sensors looked good. But I thought I detected a slight miss when I was running above 4k with throttle lock trying to make the light come on while moving wires. I turned it off and checked the plugs on the side that was missing and they were maybe an eighth of a turn loose. I torqued them to spec. Miss seemed to go away but maybe it was my imagination it was hardly noticeable to begin with. I put my hand behind the exhaust and could feel the exhaust stumble slightly. I am going to put it back together and run some Seafoam through it and see if it stays off. I didn't. notice any difference in the way the bike ran when it would come on so I think it may just be temporary glitch, bad fuel maybe. Hope so anyway.

Bad fuel just about can't be the cause of my particular problem as I just finished a 4200 mile trip... much gas has been through the tank in the last 2 weeks :)

RPMs must be above 3900 for 10 seconds to throw knock sensor code.

What was the resolution to this problem? Is it fixed and what did you do?

I found a bad wire to the right side knock sensor... after repairing the wire, the FI light stays off over 4000 rpm.

It appeared to be heat damage to me... the insulation was burned off pretty much and grounded the wire. I replaced it with teflon jacketed wire...

I am reviving this thread as I have some additional information I'm wondering about. I ran a new wire from the ECM to the right knock sensor and my problem started to be intermittent after a period of time. After my off season this winter, I noticed that my battery was starting to get weak and replaced it with a new one this spring. Ever since then, the FI light has never come on. Is it possible that the FI light was coming on because the ECM was getting low voltage? I have made some several high speed trips and the light has never come back on again...

That is a good thought. I never read of anyone having that issue before but it does sound reasonable.

My issue was the ECU. Once I replaced the ECU all my problems were gone. Well, almost all my problems. My wife is still here...:(

That just got 5,434 hits on the Prairieville, LA Facebook page... LOL

Oh NO! I sure hope this thing is not linked to Facebook! Of course, she does not exactly have a face for Facebook if you know what I mean...:
And I am not sure she can read anyway. Well, except for menus and grocery store labels anyway.

Since I usually express my contempt for Facebook she is quick to remind me that "Those motorcycle forums are just your own version of facebook. And the pictures are not as good." She might be right.
