As in Florida riders — are you required by state law to carry some form appropriate vehicle insurance or bond when operating your bikes on public roads and highways?

I know in the evil cruel inhospitable state of CA we're required to have insurance or maybe some surety bond when operating our vehicles including motorcycles. Whatever form it takes it's more than just "don't worry if something happens I've go money" assurance.

It the insurance/liability responsibility for motorcycles different than that of cars?

No not required but you are required to be able to financially cover any accident. So everyone I know has insurance on most bikes. Pretty cheap unless your new ride says BMW on it. My ST was below 150 for good full coverage. I won't say on the new RT.

Florida does not require insurance on motorcycles but it does require financial responsibility if you get into an accident. This website explains it well.

My motorcycle insurance is about $120 year for all three bikes. I carry only liability on the motorcycles and stack the liability and uninsured/underinsured motorist to the bikes from my automobile policy.

In Florida you do not have to have proof of insurance to register your motorcycle.
But if you are in an accident or get pulled over for any reason by law enforcement you will be asked for proof of insurance, or some other proof of “financial responsibility”. Operating a vehicle without insurance is illegal in Florida. I have lived in Florida since 1978 and you wouldn’t believe me when I tell you how many times I’ve been told that you don’t have to have insurance on your motorcycle…
