Had my first commute to work today on my newly acquired 2005 ST1300A Pan European and enjoyed every second of it. First class biking!

There is one stupid little thing that is bugging me about the fuel computer.

Has anyone figured out how to change the unit of volume measurement from liters to gallons?

Having searched the OM I have managed to change the distance units from km to miles, however the fuel computer displays miles per litre and not gallons.

I feel you all thinking, if that's the biggest problem that guy has in life....geez!

I know , I know...but it is bugging the hell out of me, the fact that I can't work out how change it. I can see the unlit "gal" symbol on the display, so it does exist on my UK spec bike, but can I find a way to swap away from litres.....ehh nope.
Although we pay at the pumps per litre here in Scotland, I just like thinking in MPG. I'm beginning to think its some kind of jumper switch deep on the bowels of the dash or somewhere.

Any ST1300 multi function display Einsteins out there that can help a ST newbie?

Hi Joe

Thanks for the feast reply and link, however, I couldn't see anything on that thread
about changing litres to gallons. Km to miles yes, which I had changed, its just that my fuel computer reads out in miles per litre. Im trying get get MPG readings.

I'm not sure if that's possible... did some searches myself and didn't find anything.

Look on the bright side, it'll help me brush up on my 4.5 times arithmetic table!

Nah, the display shows how many miles you get to a litre of fuel. So today my start stop city commute to work and back average was 7.9miles/l , so 4.5 x 7.9 is ehhhh....hang on till I get my calculator...35.55mpg!

Yes that is right, but it only changes the distance measurement from Km to Miles but not the volume units, I'm still getting /l and not /gal.
I took a couple of snaps, one in Km and one in miles. Just trying to work out how to post them.....

Two pics showing my Pan European Multi Function Display in Km and Miles, but you will notice the fuel computer always shows KM or Miles travelled per litre, and not per gallon.

That's just the way it is. The "gal" is for US bikes and the US gallon is 20% less volume than the UK gallon. We buy our fuel in litres here anyway so not having MPG doesn't bother me much. Anyway, a gallon is 4.54609 litres, so at 7.9 miles per litre your fuel consumption was 35.914 MPG (or 29.904 per US gallon) which seems about right for start-stop conditions.

Thanks Hound, at least I know I'm not going off my rocker or missing something somewhere. What kind of fuel consumption are you getting on a run, 40ish?

If I baby it, I get 11 miles per litre but it's usually between 8 and 9... so probably 40 or so, yes...
