Not to mention that the 1914 board was probably straight and true, where the modern version is likely both warped and twisted.
Because back then they'd let the lumber rest in the yard for a couple of years, if not decades before driving them logs through the sawmill, whilst today the slats arrive at the hardware store like 48 hours after the tree had been cut down... the sap still dripping...
Same over here, can't build a roof structure, because the rafters will crack, wind and twist everything apart...
A strong market has grown due the demand for the old squared timber from house demolition... a few hundred years old, they won't warp...
