I have just taken delivery of a (new to me) 2005 ST1300A. It comes with a Givi E52 Maxia case, which is very nice.

With the case installed, I can press the red button and remove it. Should that be? I was thinking that without the insertion of a key, the red button shouldn't press so you can remove the case. Am I missing something here? I can't find any manuals online.

Thanks.

Definitely not correct. If the correct mount was used and it was installed correctly and neither the mount nor the topcase lock are broken you cannot push the button in without unlocking it first.

Here is a pic showing what the mount should look like.

When you put it on the mount, put the key to the unlock position and press the trunk down until you hear a loud "click." You have to push pretty hard. The trunk should only come off with the key turned to unlock and then pressing the red button.

Very good advice considering he's having difficulties, but on my Maxia the weight of the case itself is sufficient to cause it to latch ("...loud click..."). Simply letting go of the case once it's in the correct position will latch it. No pushing is required. If it needs pushing, there may be an alignment issue?

Mine did need a little extra push.

Very good answers. Thank you.

I do seat the case as described, getting a loud click. It is secure that way. The problem is that I don't need the key inserted or turned to press the red button and remove the case.

Could this have been disabled? Can I pull apart some of this to see if the locking mechanism is bent or something? I see a schematic at the Canadian website that gives me some hints about how it's constructed.

Thanks.

I took off the lock screws and was able to pull out the red button. The red plastic tab to catch the lock is broken. Now on to finding a dealership that I can get parts from.

So far I have a Canadian dealership looking into this for me. The GIVI website for the US doesn't list dealerships. The Canadian site has a full list.

Thanks for your help!
Dan
