Givi Top Box Locked

I puchased a Givi E55 Maxia and only used it for two week end rides. Last time I opened it it took quite a while to remove the key. When I got home and tried to unlock it the key went in but did not turn it. Anyone have any sug:mad::mad:estions on how to open it?
 
My GIVI box key becomes more difficult to turn if I put a more gear in the box than it was designed for and there is a lot of upward pressure on the box lid.

Try pushing down on the lid, while you turn the key and see if that helps.

Thanks guys, I tried the push and turn proceedure and had no success. I will try the graphite but it seems way to stiff for that to work. Key slides in and out with little to no effort. I think its the lock has had one of the pins release and now the key is incorrect. Givi said if I ship them the box out to Montreal they will look at it. My problem is it's a Monokey which means if it does not open it also does not come off the bike. That's an expensive ship for a cheap lock.

Sounds like you have some pins stuck to me. If the key slides in and out too easily that may mean that something is gummed up. Maybe try inserting the key and tapping it with a small hammer. Don't bang it too hard as you don't want to break the key but tapping my get some movement. Also try and tap as you rotate the key. Once you get it open I would take it off and see if you can get some graphite lube worked in there.

If you can get it open and the lock out. I am not sure how hard it is to remove, maybe try some bake cleaner to clean it up, blow it dry with a compressor or let it dry then lube with graphite. Someone may have lubed it with WD40 or some form of oil at some point.
 
Yes I have to agree with you. Givi Canada is sending me a new lock and hopefully I can find a locksmith who can help me out . Thanks for your help getting me unstuck.:inpc1:
 
Just tried sinnisters idea of tapping the key and turning it and walla......the lock sprung open. So I guess the saying "all you need is a larger hammer " is true. Thanks again sinnister.

Ahh sounds like you got a new lock on the way so I would just go with the replacement. As I mentioned in the PM it is either gummed up or defective. Glad you got in.
