A car is not an airplane.... If he had some way of controlling his nose up attitude he could have made the jump. The correct speed is only part of the problem, keeping it from pitching nose down or up, or level comes into play the greater the distance traveled. Anything less is just "luck". Happy he wasn't hurt seriously.
