We have a dark roast ready for those who are ready for caffeination!
Wishing everyone of you a happy & healthy new year!
We had a houseful to welcome the new year in.
It’s always an interesting evening to host those from different walks of life!
Here’s wishing each & every one of you, whatever you think you need to fulfill your dreams!
I’m going in search of mine very shortly…
Happy New Year!
WB

New Year’s Day coffee hits like,
“Oh… so we’re doing this again?”... :coffee:

Hence I'm officially declaring:

605542870_1358140633023612_2861137852723894030_n.jpg

G'Day...

0°/4°C, stormy, scattered clouds racing over the sky...

no avail finding sleep early, and after the "bombardment" finally faded, strong gusts kept howling around the house...
Amazing what the human race pulls over the simple fact that this rock completed another orbit around its star...

at least we're starting the new calendar properly caffeinated... ☕

GF was already patrolling around the house and returned infuriated:
those flying creatures, we're so meticulously trying to keep well fed, turn out to be quite spoiled brats...
actually leaving all the (peeled) sunflower seeds aside, to exclusively feed on the peanuts, mealworms and raisins... pfffff...

To all you birds: support our farmers, eat more domestic! ;)

No plans for today, GF is sorting files, utility bills and other papers...

According to Diskworld (not to be mistaken with the flatearthers though...):

So let's see how this turns out... 😎

Happy New Year all, and thanks Whiskers for the coffee.

-5C and blowing snow here. We're told to expect 15cm of it. What-ev.

I rang in the New Year quietly at home with Mrs. Obo, as I'm nursing an unpleasant head cold (or something resembling there of.) I expect today will be quiet too, other than starting to put away the holiday decorations. I was asked to being in the multiple totes from the garage so they'd be warmed up, so that the regular household contents can switch places with the holidays ones. The annual temporary migration of North to South and back again in a week or two. It's a lot, which I may have eluded to. Luckily, it's about 48 weeks away from happening again.

Hope everyone's having a great year so far, and that it continues.

Obo,

Happy New Year! :wave1:

Good morning, all, and thanks for the coffee start, Brian.

It's 26 and cloudy, rising to 27, before dropping to 11f, tonight.
We have about an inch of snow on the ground, and we'll get a bit more, later in the day.

Yesterday was rather low-key, and we sat around watching TV and perusing the web, mostly
On the way to dinner, we stopped over to the local whilesale place, where I bought another 5-pack of reading glasses.
We couldn't get into our preferred dining place, so plan-b it was.
They lost our order, although it wasn't too busy when we arrived. They made it right, though, and comp'd the meal.
We go there often, and this is the first time it's happened, so we took it in stride.

Today, I'll do some shoveling, maybe a walk, and Brenda will do some grocery shopping.
I may or may not get to the gym, but I'll get that gear ready, in any event.

Enjoy the day, and the year!
Steve

Mornin’ y’all. Did it happen? I missed it, since I went to bed around 8:00.

32 to start the day, but finishing up with a sunny 58. Can’t complain.

I was thinking back, on some previous New Year Eves. Has it really been 26 years since the Y2K scare?

I guess the good news this morning, is that there is no news, or at least nothing drastic happening.

John

Good morning everyone and welcome to 2026.

Thanks for the coffee, Brian.

It's 27°F and sinking toward 23 in Rockville, with a breeze. We got a tracer of icy pellets overnight, underpinning about 0.1" of sn..., sn..., sn..., no I can't say it. That white stuff that sometimes happens at this time of year.

We've had coffee, breakfast, and mimosas already and our guests have departed. All is quiet and calm in the House of Fun. When I finish this I'll get dressed and head back into the workshop. If I make progress at the same rate as yesterday I'll be close to completing the basic structure of the bench, and maybe even starting in on the trim, by the end of the day. You may even see some photos.

Stay safe and well everyone and tell your dear ones you love them. Do it today, NOW, for tomorrow may be too late.

Good morning, all, thanks for the start-up, Brian, and Happy New Year, everybody!

I had a nice, quiet New Year's Eve and almost managed to stay awake until midnight...but not quite. The CBC aired a special NYE show that was broadcast live from across the country (there wasn't much else to watch on TV last night); and I saw them ring in the new year in St. John's, Newfoundland and then Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island a half-hour later before finally running out of steam. I know there was a big party going on in the Old Port of Montreal, and I'm sure a good time was had by all, if you like that sort of thing. Not being a fan of standing in a huge, mostly drunken crowd in the blistering cold, I passed. I did hear the distant bangs and pops of fireworks as I was dozing off.

It's a cold New Year's Day morning, and it's going to get colder: the current temperature and windchill are -12°C/10°F and -20°C/-4°F respectively, and those values will drop steadily from here until we hit a temp of -23°C/-9°F with a feels-like of -28°C/-18°F by the time the clock strikes midnight. It looks like this cold snap is going to last quite a while, so 2026 is certainly coming in like a lion. Every prognosticator from Environment Canada to The Farmer's Almanac said it was going to be a cold winter and it looks like they were right!
Oh, and I really should bundle up like an oversized burrito and shovel all the snow we got overnight off the balcony.

Everyone have a lovely New Year's Day, stay safe and go safely.

Patty

Thanks for the coffee Brian and Happy New Years all. Been up since 4am but haven't picked up the computer much lately.

Another grey day of flurries here in the frozen tundra, temps range from low in the teens to highs in the twenties. Maybe some single digits tonight. The good news is winter feels like winter again for the first time in several years.

I hope everyone has a healthy year and remember to be safe out there.

Was that Brian serving up the coffee in the early moments of this brand new year?
Well then, I thank you. No worries, i brought my own cup. I always do.
At first I was gonna just pop in and say howdy, with a terse, pithy remark about how I plan to post in shorter visits this year.
Then I came to my (admittedly few) senses. I love Mark Twain too, so let's just be real.
I yam what I yam 🍠.
Nephew's wife plans a lunch of greens and black-eyed peas, but I'll pass. I may be suspicious, but I'm not superstitious.
We got home after last year ended, spending time with about 20 other folks eating desserts and drinking coffee and praying in the new annum. Quite a difference from not so many decades ago, when I would party my butt off through the transition, and pay dearly the next afternoon upon waking in a foggy, sometimes painful stupor. With friends (?) I haven't seen in years.
Been hearing lots of reporting that fewer people are choosing that type of celebratory induction to beginning a new 📅 calendar. I don't know who is reporting this, or how they think they know.
Every day / week / year is ultimately what we make of it, anyway. Even when we are thrown into circumstances we neither chose or can control.
While I've never been an Oprah fan, she is attributed with saying, "Cheers to a new year and another chance for us to get it right."
I suppose some can find a little hope in that, hmm?
One thing I'm pretty sure of... I'm going to stop being in such a hurry, in 2016.

Happy New Year y'all from SoMD! it was 38F/3.5C when I first woke up at 0732...I think the Prince of Purrrsia was being kind plus I had given him an extra mini-snack last night after getting home late. So, that may have thrown his hunger clock off a bit. Herd fed, had a biscuits & gravy breakfast and some delish coffee, many thanks WB! Then...I went back to sleep! Three more glorious hours of slumber except for the dream I had trying to get wherever I was trying to go, but even though I was making logical decisions to turns/routes, I would emerge in a completely different area, of course. So, I awoke again at 1030 for my second cup and second take on the new year...meh, no improvement.

Yesterday I Finished up the garage door insulation. Today, I do a little 3D print work, maybe change the car's oil and investigate a rattle in the front end that sounds like something I shouldn't ignore too long. I've only a few more days before I return to the salt mines, so I oughta maximize my fun and domestic productivity while I can. Take care y'all!

Progress report...

The frame for the front is constructed and has been checked for fit against the top, corner trims, and sides. A 1/16" shave off the top plus similar amounts on the inside edges of the top corner trims brought things into agreement.
20260101_141110.jpg

One of the aforementioned top corner trims. They'll be attached to the lid but not to the sides, since the top will be a flip-open lid. The original design called for drawers but I've changed my mind. It's not too late to change back, but soon will be.
20260101_141326.jpg

Oops. The top panel is 1 1/4" too short despite my having measured a half dozen times. Fortunately I have enough material available to cut a new one. I'm trying to decide between joining two pieces that would otherwise be leftover / scrap along their edges to make the required width, versus cutting a single piece from a fresh panel that I bought just in case.
20260101_142429.jpg

I've decided to be done for the day and make that decision tomorrow when I'm fresh and rested. Too many times this afternoon I caught myself thinking about some operation only to realize that doing it would create a box that can't be opened, not a chest with a hinged lid...

Happy New Year to everyone hope everyone has good one
Got out for a ride during the 12:00 toll of the bell, looking for fire cracker types that might be too close for comfort, good excuse for a ride
The only person on the road besides me was a cop coming down the alley, I stopped thinking I'll probably get followed and pulled over, but she had a look at me and carried on
Got on for a while again today, about 2C dry and tested a couple more different gloves; finally got something that works, Mechanic's Insulated seem to be the best for the finger tips
Finally broke down and fixed my loose shifter; how hard was that? Like a tooth ache you ignore for ten years
Couple more upside down pics, All the best to everyone it's a great site :wine2:

[edit] couple more probably upside down pics, global warming must be true, haven't had to start the hummingbird heaters yet I gotta wear safety glasses to go out the front door,
these guys are fierce around the feeders this time of year

Happy New Year Brian & All from Southern Utah!

@3:15PM, I'm up and showered, so you all don't have to run away! ;)

Currently it is 47F, up from 38F and down from the high of 48F. We managed to squeeze out 0.02" of rain from the storm that rolled by, right after midnight. More possible on the way? Maybe? The winds are blowing from the S @ 13 to 17mph.

@ST1100Y; Martin, speaking of spoiled birds. I got the Bird Feeder up a nd running yesterday and one bird found it already. BUT, it is laying down in the feeder, so, all we see is it's head! :spank1:

20260101_BirdFeeder.jpg

No, I didn't get a picture of it. But there is the feeder!

@Obo, I can relate. Yesterday, around 5:30PM, I got up from my desk chair and almost fell over. It seems that I picked up something the other day and my head was spinning something terrible. And then my stomach, joined in. So pretty much all last night I just sat in front of the TV. I didn't realize that the clock had passed midnight until about 12:30AM. Buy no joy anyway, I really didn't feel like celebrating!

I went to bed around 5AM and didn't get out until after 11AM. I still feel like crap! o_O

Chris made me some hot cereal and toast, which helped a bit. I still need some lunch, once I'm ready for some. And I've had a Pepsi, and later, maybe another.

Anyone :bl13:, have a great day on the roads! :hat3:

Christmas and New Year celebrations are over and we have started a new year 2026. Happy New Year to everyone here at st-owners.com My ST1100 is almost done servicing and repairing, just a little more assembly of exterior panels and polishing left and then it will be a test ride as soon as the weather gets a little more springy in a few months.
