Heated Grips

How many wires come out of the controller? Symtec HeatDemons (which go under the grips) have a high/low/ ground wire setup.
I know people have connected them to HeatTrollers before (I think they just connected the high heat wire and the ground).

Have a look at the discussion part of the attachment in the first post of the below link. It explains the differences between the Honda series wired grips and grips wired in parallel and how to hook them up to the Honda controller. It references heating elements, but the same theory applies to any heated grips wired in parallel.

While looking for heated grips for my ST1300 I came across this ad from Toledo East Honda ( see pic ) that says some new model Honda's bikes have a heated grip set that will work on the ST1300. I have emails to Toledo East and my dealer in Canada asking if this is true. Sure looks like it...

TLDR; The poster was able to use Honda OEM parts for heated grips. Honda doesn't advertise them for the ST1300 but they appear to work. You may be able to replace your grips with the ones he lists. It ain't cheap however!

Ack sorry, I didn't read your post properly and that you didn't want the factory ones!

I would just replace them with the Koso grips that have the controller in the grip itself and leave the factory controller there (or replace it with something unrelated).
 
Short question: this is the ST1100 corner, right? ;)

So, gremlins struck also in my neck of the woods, LHS OEM grip heater gave in...
They're quite off age, I moved them from my prev '92 ST1100 (note: eleven hundred...), so about 30 years duty... not bad I'd say, not bad at all...

Anyway, what to replace the elements with?
OEM aren't avail anymore (RHS is but I need the 22mm LHS...)...
In aftermarket ones Oxford seem to be the choice, not sure about the model... in particular I'm not sure about the integrated controller with my big paws, and rather keep the OEM bug which wheel can be easily operated during odd conditions with thick gloves on...

Also odd that current heaters come with the throttle tube installed... will this even fit?
In this I stumbled over an OEM kit for the NC 750... P/N 08T70-MKW-D00, of course for an obscene amount of money...

Found aftermarket ones for a more reasonable amount and ext controller, enabling reusing my old OEM one:


The Keenso OTOH are really cheap, but look like a DIY project...


Daytona look slick, but hindering the use of my SENA RC4 clip-on remocon, and I'm also not sure if the surface isn't uncomfortable when wearing thin summer gloves...



What's the quality of the aftermarket grips? Will the rubber weather off within just one season or are they as durable as the Honda ones??
 
Did some extensive search, but couldn't find any h/handles in the required length of 125mm... :rolleyes:
All those avail are only 120mm... that gap towards the end weights looks just off ...

Fortunately I had some OEM NOS in my stash and finally came around installing them:

AFAIK only dealer fitted upon customer request... (like with deflector kit, carrier plate, topcase, fairing speaker set or the FM radio kit)
Hence the installation manuals packed with mentioned...
 
What is the nicest and cleanest installation of heated grips today 2025 regardless of price... Thinking without a big lump hooked to the handlebar to turn on/off with adjustment. Great with link or picture of product.

Symtec Heat Demons - reasonably priced and you can user whatever grip you like over the top of them.
They adhere to the handlebars, are very thin, and really do a good job of producing heat.
I've used them on all 4 of my ST1100s for years.
 
Found a set of heated grips here with integrated switch in the left handle … A little info:

High quality heated grip set with integrated contact

The handles fit handlebar diameter Ø22mm and with standard throttle handle Ø25mm. The handles are made in a nice slim-line design. They therefore have basically the same outer diameter as regular handles!

I have the Koso Apollo grips that @St-Gerard posted above on two bikes and they've been great. Similarly simple installation like the Lampa grips you posted @increasing https://www.lampa.it/en/articles/90536-heated-grips-12v?gr=3-54-54-0002-__191-90536

The only misgiving I would have is the throttle grip comes with a throttle tube inside. I don't know if the cross-section of the end where the cables attach and fit inside the control housing is a proper fit for the Honda throttle design. If so, great. If not, be sure to be familiar with their return policy first, or ask the manufacturer about compatibility with your ST1100.
 
I have the Koso grips as well. For the ST, order them in 130 mm size, otherwise they’re too short in 120 mm size (but I made up for the shortage to fit my BT controller on the left and the GoCruise throttle lock on the right).

Oxford makes a heated grip with the push button control in the grip. These make for a very nice installation w/o a controller on the handlebars. However, I've read a few reviews by cyclists who have previously used Oxford's standard grips with the 'big ugly controller' on the handlebar. They have said the new integrated grips do not get as warm as the old ones. I've used the old grips (cost is under $100, the new grips are several hundred bucks) and only turned the heat above level 2 to see how hot they get. Too hot for comfort!.

I wonder if this problem extends to other brands. My guess is elevated heat can damage the controller, hence the new Oxfords limit heat output.
 
My Koso's got hotter and quicker than my Oxford's with the external controller, only draw back I would change the heat setting when using the turn signal, when glueing on be careful of the position.
